I'm hearing a lot of rumors that Obama may have to replace Biden to counter Palin's popularity--possibly put Hillary on the ticket as a last ditch effort to save his hopes of winning the Presidency. Any views?

What are the polls saying to his choice? I like Biden...I like Hilary , but thats from what the media has shown us. Palin is an unknown gun toting mother of a pregnant teenager.....

I somehow doubt Obama would change his choice...can they do that? Has it been done in the past? I'm not too family with how yanky politics works when it comes to presidential races.

Exactly--all the media ever shows is a completely slanted and distorted picture--making liberals look like heroes and they paint anyone else as bad.

...has a previous contender ever switched out his or her vice president choices?...other than out of health or scandal for reason.

Don't be so sure. Just Google it "Obama Dump Biden" or something similar --its all over the Internet on Blogs and such--that's why I said "rumors". But I suspect that articles will start popping up in more credible places such as some of the political sites--may already be there.

This won't be a "we made a mistake", it will be some bullshit about Biden's health or some personal matter or some such shit to get rid of him.

I don't see it happening. no reason for it. and I don't screw with the blogs sites. that is where most of the urban legands like this start

That's where MUCH of the credible information comes from initially and then finds its way to the larger news bureaus. I don't deny that there is also a large amount of garbage, but blogs have uncovered a significant amount of information.

I don't see it happening either--however, I certainly do not believe it will "never happen" -- I would give it at 10 to 20% possibility.

BTW--a sure way to know its going to happen is how much you see Hillary campaiging for Obama. If she remains in the forefront and gets a lot of press time and attention from the Democrats, then you can be sure that Biden is going to come down with some illness. The actual condition is diahrea of the mouth, but they'll come up with some medical term. Hell, they may even send him on a hunting trip with Dick Cheney!!!! :24::24::24:

About as much chance of Obama dumping Biden as McCain dumping Ms Sarah. However I'd be thrilled if Obama had Hillary as his VP. :)

That's exactly why it might happen. Right now the polls are even or with Obama a few points in the lead. If that changes significantly, Biden will be dropped--I guarantee it because as Alien said, Obama needs to be ahead--the Republicans have an absolute ton of swiftboating material on him that hasn't been hit yet, but its coming--they'll wait until the timing is right. If the Democrats think he's losing ground, they'll replace him with Hillary. Obama doesn't want Hillary, but he'd rather have her than lose the election.

how is dumping Biden going to help if Obama gets swiftboated??

and already the switboats are out it appears going after Palin

It probably won't help---but adding Hillary definitely would bring him more votes than Biden would.

Like I said, I don't see a high probability of it but I guarantee you the Democratic party leadership is thinking about it as an option already.

Most of the stuff I've heard about Palin are the documented fabrications the Republican party is promoting backfiring on them. It's your privilege to categorize it as swiftboating which is misleading in itself.

Hiring lobbyists for millions in earmarks?
Selling the governors plane on ebay?
Supporting the bridge to nowhere?
An ethics investigation?

Are these lies or are they an inconvenient truth?

I all ready am anticipating your response, "they all do it" except that swift-boating and attack ads are the Republican Party specialty that in recent history started with the elder Bush and Willie Horton. And Kerry proved that ignored attacks hurt you big. Has there ever been a misleading attack ad put out by forces friendly to the Dems. I'm sure there has been. But I'd be willing to bet you see more of it on the Republican side.

There is nothing wrong with "focus ads" that point out the truth. They should not mislead which many attacks ads do. And the leadership in the Republican Party believe the end justifies the means so flagrant lies are ok, which the current Administration has been doing for 8 years to U.S. citizens. It's up to the people to call them on it.

Willy Horton idea started with the democrats by the way

Who ran the ad?

Wiki link.

The first person to mention the Massachusetts furlough program in the 1988 presidential campaign was Al Gore. During a debate at the Felt Forum sponsored by the New York Daily News, Gore took issue with the furlough program. However, he did not specifically mention the Horton incident or even mention Horton's name, instead asking a general question about the Massachusetts furlough program.
Republicans would pick up the Horton issue after Dukakis clinched the nomination. In June 1988, Republican candidate George H.W. Bush seized on the Horton case, bringing it up repeatedly in campaign speeches. Bush's campaign manager, Lee Atwater, predicted that "by the time this election is over, Willie Horton will be a household name."[3] Media consultant Roger Ailes remarked "the only question is whether we depict Willie Horton with a knife in his hand or without it."
