Kay, so I'm painting a mural in a hospital. They decided that the MRI room wasn't cheery enough for the patients and are paying me to imitate Monet on this giant wall.

Do we really need another Monet? No, but that isn't my question.

When I paint, I play music. MRI's are strictly NO METALZ OR YOU WILL DIEEEEE.

What would happen if I bring a cd player into the MRI room to listen to while I paint? No one would see me!

Would it send the MRI into massive explosive seizures? Or (hopefully) will I be able to listen to some tunes? :dunno

no do not do that. you cant have any of that shit in there. i got my fare share of MRI's and you cant ever have a little bit change in your pockets when you in the thing or in the room.

that might interfer with the machine.

but bring it with you, leave it in your car and ask them before you bring it in just to be safe and sure.

so your a painter huh. have any pick of your work. my cousin is an art teacher and she does murals and all that stuff. let me see if i can find a pic. if you have any pics of your work post them up in the picture section of the site. im interested in seeing your work

I don't think it would hurt anything as long as the machine isn't on while you are in there. I'm pretty sure they won't have you in there painting when someone is getting an MRI anyway.
But at any rate, I would still recommend you get permission first.

the machine creates a huge electro magnetic field that basically would turn it into a giant magnet when it's got a current running through it...however when it's off it's just a huge chunk of metal itself so your stero won't do anything as long as you aren't using it or have it in there while it's in use.

in all reality the MRI will probably degauss your radio and make it non-functional.

Thanks guys!

Just lemme host some stuff and then I'll post it in pictures. It won't exactly really be like the mural, because, like I said, they're paying me to paint like Monet, which is boring x100.

I'll ask, then. Or just hum.

Rusteh's got it right, it's a huge and very powerful electromagnet. We build cabinets for MRI's in the area. We cannot use any ferrous metals at all, like nails, screws or hardware. The magnet would be strong enough to pull the screws from the cabinets near the machine turning them into ballistic projectiles.

I would ask first, they will most likely say no since they wouldn't want to risk anyone getting hurt if the machine were powered on. If you don't ask and something you brought in damages the machine, you would be liable and those machines aren't cheap.
