I think we all knew we had to take Wikipedia with a certain grain of salt since the very nature of the site depends on its ability to be edited by almost anyone in the world. The fail-safe for this method was suppose to be peer-reviewed and consensus-based moderation, but apparently, some corporate entities have been working around that.
I'm just grateful that Wikipedia seems to operated by people who really, truly want the online encyclopedia to be honest and open, and in response to discovering over 300 sock puppet accounts used to manipulate information, they've called in their lawyers and plan to out each of these companies by name.
In particular, they came across a Texas based company called Wiki-PR, which pays people to alter Wikipedia articles. Here's an article about it, if you're curious.
