I think we all knew we had to take Wikipedia with a certain grain of salt since the very nature of the site depends on its ability to be edited by almost anyone in the world. The fail-safe for this method was suppose to be peer-reviewed and consensus-based moderation, but apparently, some corporate entities have been working around that.

I'm just grateful that Wikipedia seems to operated by people who really, truly want the online encyclopedia to be honest and open, and in response to discovering over 300 sock puppet accounts used to manipulate information, they've called in their lawyers and plan to out each of these companies by name.

In particular, they came across a Texas based company called Wiki-PR, which pays people to alter Wikipedia articles. Here's an article about it, if you're curious.

I mean, I can't say it comes as a surprise, can you?

I'm not surprised at all. Even without companies like Wiki-PR, there are simply some moderators on there that have too much power over others and will skew articles to their own liking and agenda - and there is nothing you can do about it. There were a group of people who were accusing a company I worked for of participating in illegal business practices along with several other shady companies. They had mistakenly connected us with these companies, because one of them was ripping off content from our site, so they assumed we were all one and the same. For months I kept correcting our Wikipedia page regarding this issue, and within minutes they would take it all down and put their misinformation back up. Finally they got the page locked so we could no longer edit it. I work for the damn company, this is information coming straight from the horses mouth, yet some ding dongs clear across the country playing arm chair detectives in their spare time were getting treated like the authorities.
