It was the worst thing ever for Rep. Joe Wilson to yell out, "You Lie" to Obama during his speech the other night. Are the democrats not remembering the fact that many of their own party booed Bush during his speeches? I don't particularly understand the double standard in play here.

Supposedly it never has happened before. I think that is bullshit. Maybe not calling some a liar but there have been equally offensive outbursts in the past.

I think they got this Obama dude up so high on a pedistal though that one is supposed to tip toe around him. Next they will say that Wilson is a racist.

Perfect, get rid of whatever decorum standards that are left. I don't think it has happened before when a President is addressing Congress, yelling out "you lie" or booing. I have listened to many Presidential addresses when Congress is controlled by the other party and the standard is a minimum of unenthusiastic clapping. And why did all of prominent Republicans come down on Wilson?

Dear God dude.... is your memory seriously that bad? Or just that selective?

RealClearPolitics - Video - Flashback: Democrats Boo Bush At 2005 State Of The Union

and that was many democrats... not just one person. All Bush was saying that got him booed was the Social Security was going to go bankrupt and that it was the time to fix it.

I listened to your video twice and heard outbursts of disagreements, indistinguishable noise, as in "it can't be", but as much as you want to make a point, Bush was neither boo'd nor heckled, nor was his character attacked. Was it disrespectful? yes. Did it rise to the level of Wilson? no.

So basically, your hearing is as selective as your memory is. Maybe the audio quality on it sucked, but I remember very clearly that he was booed during that speech, and it sounded like booing in the video to me. They booed and yelled "No" to his claims that Social Security was going bankrupt and needed reform.

The long and the short of it is supporters don't like it when "their guy" is interrupted by pointing out just how shitty their policies are. Doesn't matter who "their guy" is or what the policies are...

Personally I think we need to do away with the decorum BS and let people know just what an ugly business politics is and just what an ugly sort politicians are. I imagine something like the UKs "Prime Ministers Questions" only nastier...

or on the flip side make any asshat who stands up and cheers get their arse kicked out of the room.

I am so sick of the continual applause

You would think it is a friggin fundraiser.

Make the speech and then applaud at the end.

Minor I suggest you go to the earn nose and throat specialist. Your hearing is not very good. Or is it just selective.

Back at ya! We all have our filters. Who can honestly stand up and pronounce themselves neutral? None of you guys. :) But if I could have made out a derogatory remark in the Bush video, I would have acknowledged it. And I all ready acknowledged the outbursts were disrespectful. But who here is trying to make a case that what Wilson did was ok? No me...

Got to agree with that, saw a speech by Obama last week and it could have taken him a tenth of the time to make if the audience didn't to decide to break into applause at the end of every sentence.:thumbdown

I think it is much ado about nothing. He blurted it out. He did not continue on with a rant.

Only thing I would complain about is he should have yelled Bull Shit a few times :24:

And he was slapped down by his party, case closed! But for some reason, the "ado" continues in these forums. :D

i think that it he was a single man that called the president a liar

i dont think any one person did that during bush's admin to his face on national live TV

or did they???

i am kind of partial. I think Bush would have deserved anything people would have dished out.

I agree 100%

and I find it extremely ironic that if the tables were turned you guys would be calling for his head on a silver platter. You would be saying that it was unpatriotic to show such disrespect to the office of president.

Didn't the lose of decorum start when Cheney told Leahey to Fuck off?

That's why I like British politicians. They use bigger words to insult the shit out of each other:rockon:

It's called intelligence...:cool

Heh, not I. I wish people had called GWB on his BS in any way shape or form. Maybe things wouldn't have gotten quite so screwed up and maybe we wouldn't have ended up with the incompetent boob who's intent on screwing things up even more...

As much as I despised Bush and his administration, I still have respect for the office. I would want the Senate and House to kick his ass in the right way.

This is also why I was disturbed by the reaction of the "right" when Obama was going to address the kids in school. Because even though I thought Bush was a complete moron and fuck up, I wouldn't care if he had addressed my kids in school. I want my children to have respect for the office of president and I don't want my disdain for the man to diminish that. They will have plenty of time later in life to judge the man in the office when they are able to understand politics, but they need to learn respect for the office first.

I tend to go with how the Brits do it. If ya think there is something said by the leader that is wrong then why not say something. It is not like the guy pulled a Kayne West. He blurted out liar. Period. Nothing more. I am not saying I approve of it but is it really any different when the left booed Bush and mumbled other stuff in his address to the State of the Union??

Be honest.... If you had only heard it on the radio it would have not been much more than an OH moment.

The cameras though had Pelosi in plain view. Did anybody who saw it not read her lips?? Her outrage probably made it more of a story than it was.

I honestly think this it all silly and believe it or not would say the same back when Bush was booed.
