Details of events fade, but the emotions tied to them often stay strong. Why do you think feelings last longer than facts? When you look back at memories, do you focus more on emotions or specific details?

The only reason I can see is people are emotional creatures. What they talk, what they feel, what they see, everything is emotionally guided.
