Why Do Gay Man Speak Like That?

And I'm not trying to be homophobic here, it's just an observation. A lot of gay men speak very camp. Is this put on or did they really speak like that their whole life? I dont mind either way, it's just something I'm curious about knowinng.

It's funny you should mention that, because it's a question that has bugged linguists and dialect studiers for ages.

If I remember right the general consensus in the linguistic field was that it was a sort of "demographic dialect" as opposed to a regional one.
