Ok, well I am pretty sure we have had this discussion before, but ehh WTH Im having it again.

So I read in the news last night that MySpace is being Sued.. AGAIN.. this time by two Texas law firms representing four various famlies who's children became victims of predators from MySpace,

MySpaceSuit

the Suit Claims that MySpace has not reacted quickly enough to protect minors who use the popular website.

Question? Why should it be the Responsibilty of a website to babysit somebody else's children??

Dont get me wrong, I think there should be some protective measures to protect minor's information.. And I know MySpace has done some impleminting of many of those, and continue to implement more. But beyond that??

How is a site supposed to moniter every person your child talks to?? ensure your child only talks to people on that site and does not give off site messenger info??

And why is any Web Sites responsibility if your Child gives out their Personnel information? And Agrees( which is stupid on the kids part) to go and meet somebody who they met over the WEB.

These Kids can not be that stupid, they read and hear about the dangers every damn day, and if they agree to go and meet somebody who they dont know.. THEY ARE THE ONES TO BLAME.. not the website.

And Hello, lets SUE the parents who are not monetering their Children.. they dont who their children are talking to, what they are saying? I wonder Did ANY of these parents know where their kids were going and who they were planning to meet.

When its so much easier to be lazy parents, and then Sue a MultiMillion dollar company and accuse the Company of not keeping their children safe..

And what exactly were these parents doing to keep their children safe???

I agree with you.

It's silly to blame the website, especially when the website goes out of its way to warn you and remind you about giving out personal information.

The parents are most definitely to blame. It's unfortunate that so many parents are oblivious to the goings on of their own children. And you are right, it is so much easier to just blame someone else... especially when there are millions of dollars in settlements to be had.

actually, i believe a precedent was set, when a lawsuit, when finally concluded, reached the decision that a website offering content hosting services, is not responsible for that content that which was placed on their servers. they didnt create the content, they should not be held responsible. its those who create the content that should be held accountable. in this case, it is minors who created the content, so the parents are to blame, for not teaching their children what to and not to do.

kids are niave...and most of the time if they gain a friendship over the internet they have no reason to doubt it. The parents are to blame b/c they should be monitoring what their children are doing. The parents that are sueing myspace are the kind of parents that derserve to get punched in the teeth.

I absolutely fully agree with the above.

I would never allow my child in a chatroom of any kind.

Half the time, the parents who allow this to happen, are those who do not wish to spend time with their children and so it is easy to just tell them they can go on the computer, anything to keep them out of their way!

I have a parental filter on my mine. My son can't go on any chatroom, anywhere.

I wld allow him on a forum, but even if he posts on here, I wld check all his posts, any replies and his pm's, before he sees them, just to make sure.

There is no way I wld even allow the chance to arise for him to go and do things like mt up with ppl from the internet!

It is horrific that those parents can even think of it as the fault of the website concerned, rather than the fact that they are not doing their job!

Do the rules state no under 18's or that children neeed parental consent or something?

I worry for the children who have bn allowed the opportunity, by their parents, to be put in such a vulnerable place in the first place!

Freespeech.

It gets on my nerves when people try any excuse other than themselves. How many times do you see some 14 year old girl on myspace pictured in her underwear and pretending she's 18? People should take responsibility for their own actions!:mad

It just annoys the Hell out of me, The parents should be worrying about helping their children, not worried about how much money they can get out of their childs horror.

I used to allow my daughter to chat, visit sites, have messengers, But I always knew who she was talking to and what the chat rooms were, ... And she knew Damn good and well that she never gave out ay personnel info.. no matter who she was talking to or what they said.

and she never did, If I asked her about a contact, and she could not tell me who they were, how old they were, and other general info, That contact got deleted, I also had the settings set so I could keep an eye on her chat logs, and I may not have read them verbatium, but I did always have a general idea about what she was talking about to who, I just kept an eye on them for anything that would raise a flag.

Everybody Needs A Mascot

When something bad happens, people get upset. But they can't just get upset in general, they need to be upset at somthing in particular. There needs to be a face on the pain.

The parents did this, the child did this, societie's like this.

Maybe the parents should keep tabs on their kid, the child should not be stupid and society should quit whining all the time.

Yeah, people are very sue happy these days. "Hey, I'm not gonna wear my seatbelt and when I get maimed in a car accident, I'm gonna sue the car company for not monitoring my seat belt wearing!" Sounds rediculous, but it's the same thing in the long run.

To quote Doug Stanhope:

"It's like blaming a drug dealer for giving your kids drugs when your kids bought them... Using that logic, I say if I run someone over while looking for cops because I don't want a DUI, blame the cops..."

No different to the people who sue McDonalds, or the burglar who sues the house owners for getting hurt, there's a serious flaw in the legal system that allows that. You make a choice by joining any site. You need to EDUCATE kids about it properly, not just try and blame everyone else.
