South Dakota has no income tax and lower sales taxes than Texas (4%)...but you know everything is bigger in Texas....Each state's citizens should decide for themselves what kind of tax structure they want. Texas has no income tax. Sales tax is something like 8.25%, and there's a fairly healthy property tax.
Louisiana has a small income tax and lower sales & property taxes than Texas, but I think when you look around, you'll find that the total tax package is about the same all over.
Excepting of course for California & New York.

How about income taxes?New Hampshire doesn't have a sales tax either, but Massachusetts(where I live) just increased it from 5 % to 6.25%
I lived in Las Vegas for awhile. High sales tax but no income tax. Property taxes were about half of what we pay here, but the property values were higher. Since the crash though .......... dunno. If memory serves me correct I believe Nevada and Alaska don't have any personal income tax. I'm not aware of what if any sales tax they have.
I think Louisiana has low property taxes.
And no I don't think the taxes should be the same because as I think Accountable was getting to - each state has to decide what they want their citizens to be encouraged to do.
I think Louisianians can afford to own their land more because taxes are so low.
I would bet a couple of bucks you could buy a hunk of land real cheap right about now. From what I've read Vegas etc. is hurting real bad on the tourism / gambling side of things. There's been lots of layoffs in the industries associated with it and I'm sure a whack of folks just ended up throwing their keys at the bankers.I lived in Las Vegas for awhile. Damn you guys are lucky. I'm going to do some investigation on the income tax side of things just for shits and giggles. No federal sales tax here. ..................... so far.
But are their tax on food very high?

I kinda miss home because of that. I remember living in Ruston and driving 5 miles to Grambling to get liquor because our parish only allowed 3.2 beer.no - everything is 8% except cigarette and alcohol - that's more expensive but i don't know how much because it's already in the price. every tax is lower here because we are louisiana...
Guyzer's in Canada. You're right that we'll all have it if they ever start changing it. I figure it'll happen before we can get Obama out of office.JanieDough said:i'm confused - if it was a federal tax wouldn't we all have it? or is this an encroaching new thing?

That's one thing about Louisiana I'm most proud of. They fight & resist till the last moment.
I'm ashamed of that senator taking the $300 billion bribe for her vote.
:eek :madYou're right - I forgot Guyzer was in Canada.
