I'm becoming increasingly agitated at seeing the status of our world. I live in the US, and I want to live a happy, fulfilling life. Unfortunately my dreams are interrupted by things all over the news. Here's what I've been seeing lately...

China, a nation of over a billion people is gaining power. Under normal circumstances, I would applaud them on their success. The only problem is that the leaders are extremely communist and keep their people in a police state that censors their free speech. You can't have something like this gain influence in the world.

Religion is tearing apart the entire world.. Everyone believes they are right no matter what, because it's "The word of God" no matter who you ask, they're always right. These people are killing each other and basing major social decisions off of religious dogma that is often completely irrational. They believe their gods will solve all the problems, so they sit around and do nothing. These people are completely irrational and it's getting to a point where it's starting to affect my life. This doesn't make me very happy.

This world needs real change! Not a bunch of idiots squabbling over power. Why the hell is it so hard for people to be able to tolerate each others beliefs. Why the hell do we halt stem cell research when it has the potential to save millions of lives in the long run ??

The only way forward is science! Nazi Germany was able to produce immense quantities of material out of just a tiny little country because science was so deeply into their culture in WWII. With science, we can end world hunger! We can get to the point where we never have to compete for natural resources ever again. So why not do it ?? Why does this have to be so hard ?

If anyone can connect with my mad ravings at all, please share your opinion. Please show me there's still some intelligent people out there that actually care about real issues instead of just watching MTV and ESPN all day..

Greed is at the root of some of this madness. Greed has ruled many countries for years and it's destroying a lot of them now. Look at the US. The greedy politicians are grinding the hard working people under their boots and pretending that it's not their fault. They like to say they understand how the working American feels. How can they understand? They were born to wealth and will remain wealthy for years. They will never have to struggle or live paycheck to paycheck. How can they say they understand how we feel? If they walked a year in our shoes, maybe I would believe them. But I don't think that they would be able to because then they would have to give up their privileged pampered lifestyle to live like the common folk. They are too cowardly to do that

Live with it, there's nothing your average person can do to change how things are. We are human beings so qualities like hatred, green, violence etc. will always be with us for as long as mankind is around. All of the things that are "wrong with the world" you're only hearing about because of the media, a few hundred years ago you probably wouldn't have even known where China was or any religion other than Christianity/Whatever religion is in your country of origin. Its just because of the linked in world in which we live now you hear about all of these horrible things, if everything was happy in the world then news/current affairs wouldn't exist!

News and current affairs would exist if everything was right with the world. They just wouldn't be so negative and depressing. They would report about the good things that are happening out there rather than the ugly things. Since we do not live in a perfect world, we can only hope that things get better rather than much much worse.

I indeed do care. I'm going into social work and know I have my work cut out for me. Certainly I won't be focusing on as grand a scale of things are you are referring to but helping people locally in their communities can have a ripple effect, so hopefully I can make a positive change. A lot of things are a vicious cycle, like how some people are poor and have trouble getting a job because they don't have the resources to apply or get out to a job, and they lack the resources because they are poor. It's all very complicated, and I admit I still have a long ways to go, but indeed we need more people to step up and help each other out. There are so many people going into bio professions or professions related to technology that I think a lot of social service professions get swept under the rug. Every institution I talk to or hear about that involves aiding or working with people say they are under staffed. Somehow I gotta figure out how to motivate people. I've been keeping my eye on psychology books that tell you the best ways to get people motivated.

Back in the 80's the fear was the communists.

You live in one of the greatest nations in the world, you can do anything you put your mind to with determination and hard work.

I'm very familiar with social workers.

You're in for rude awakening.

Don't get me wrong, people do care, but those are the ones who get burnt out if they stay.

I'm sure, I know I don't even know the half of it yet. A lot of social service people I have met seemed really worn out. As I said, there is a high demand and not usually enough workers. However, it's where my heart is. I wouldn't feel right just living for myself or not trying to contribute back to this world positively, as I know I've had a really lucky streak with my situation and life. I've always had more than enough.

I know its good to take a break from things when you get worn out and focus on another passion for a bit. That way you can come back fresh and prepared again.

The problem in this world is lack of love and selfishness.Mothers don't want to raise their children because they claim"they have a life too." Fathers are absent from most homes. No matter the ethnicity. There are less two parent households now more than ever. Marriage has become a thing of the past. Children are raising themselves these days and there is no guidance before or after school. Also as for the extended family....Well !that no longer exist either. No one wants to be bothered with anyone else's children or responsibilities. Police focus on the wrong things and there seems to be a cultural acceptance of brutality due to race.No one cares until it happens to there own children. Violence, drugs and the sexualization of women frequent television like cartoons. Welfare is a career and is tickled down from generation to generation. But the biggest blame for the world's downfall is.......THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT AND JUST SIT ON THE COUCH AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fear. Fear is the root of all our most base, selfish survival skills. It is true what they say, "Fear is the mind killer." When you are held by fear, you are driven to hoard your possessions, distrust your neighbors, gather with the like-minded fearful, and feed the monster indefinitely. You are easily manipulated by fear via the promise of "safety". Fear is also easily internally justified and manipulated. It transforms into anger, lust, jealousy, and greed, all stemming from the same, poisoned root.

The second most powerful negative notion is apathy. Apathy is essentially willful ignorance, in which one knowingly dismisses the ails of those around them for selfish gain.

Altruism is the only method that can truly sustain a global species such as we are now. We are no longer monkeys in trees fighting over the sweetest fruit. We are an international community now, dependent upon one another for survival. Continuing with the habits of our ape-hood will keep us in our ape-hood.

You may find that you can contribute more to society directly around you more than if you worked in social services.

Don't get me wrong, you intentions are noble, just seen too many people stay in so long that they either no longer care or have given up hope and are just going through the motions.
