What's the difference between a show like Lost and V? Subject matter, story, story execution, actors? Lost, Rome, Deadwood, Dexter, Sopranos had atmospheres you rarely see in a show. V seems to have the same elements as far as a thriller as Lost does, but the difference between them is night and day. But V is poorly executed. I argue that cable based show like Rome have an inherent advantage of being much grittier, more graphic violence, sex, etc, but that alone does not carry a story. It has to be a great story with originality and all the elements must be spun together to make a great cake otherwise is just doesn't rise.
Heroes all most had all the right elements but got bogged down. Here is another show. I'm trying to get into The Event on NBC. It's got potential, but I'm not hooked. In comparison, I watched just one episode of Lost and was sucked right in. Of course you know I'm a hopeless Lost fan boy. It reached mythic proportions in my mind.
