If you knew in advance that a significant relationship in you life would be full of happiness at the start but was doomed to end in failure and suffering, would you still embark on the relationship?

Well if I knew that I guess I would go for it and then the moment things started going tits up, I'd end it kindly but firmly.

I would go for it...Id rather enjoy the happiness and have to deal with the saddness at the end...than to miss out on the good times

Isn't that the Webter's definition of a relationship? :jk:

Yes, I would still do it...

Do it.. that's part of life anyway, isn't it?
I'm in a similar possition, but then different....
I think I found someone I could be very happy in the future with.. but that means going through hell and pain in the present...

lasting relationships are never easy. if you really want to be with someone you have to take the chance and try to overcome the obstacles that you may face. if it doesnt work, hey, at least you had some good times and you'll learn for the next time.

i dont really agree with that, sorry if that affends you hhayes but in my experience ive been married 3 times before now and am about to get married again on the 21st of this month and my other 3 relationships ended tits up. my first wife stopped lovin me, my second wife cheated on me about 6 times and my third wife didnt want kids so i was stuffed with that one. i like knowin that a relationship is goin to have a future but you cant tell unless you've been through it. so just go for it, if it goes wrong then you can blame it on me, everythin else is blamed on me anyway.

Seems like my previous relationships........more than not, they were unsure from the beginning, so I should've jump ship then, but I guess I'm a masochist and wanted to go for "the ride."

"goin for a ride" isnt the best way to go tho. ive been for a lot of rides in my life and they are so depressin when they end. its hard to except the fact that even when you know its goin to end someday when it does end you dont want it to end. ive only ever wanted one of my serious relationships to end and that was the person - who shall remain nameless - didnt want kids, i ended that. i cant sleep at night unless i know that its goin to turn into somethin serious thats got a future ahead of it.

Wow. Great question. I would have to say that I would go ahead and choose to have the relationship, even knowing it would end. I say this because I've been in some bad ones before, and I learned from them. They taught me something I wouldn't know now, had I not been through all of that.

i find myself debating this daily. not knowing teh future sucks...and taking chances can end up really good or really bad. It's just hard to weigh both sides and truly pick the best choice for you when your heart is so tied up into things.

I'd probably go with the relationship despite how it might end.

Looking back at the previous relationships I have had, I can see that although we didn't stay together, my life is still richer for having had that person in it. They have all left their mark on me.
