the first modem we had in the family was a 1200 baud, before "search engines" and actual "web browsers"..we would dial out specific numbers of friends or contacts (those who were capable of receiving them) and talk/text or swap numbers where we could find hacks/cracks or "open doors".

my very first actual internet search, if i remember correctly was for either a pc alarm program to wake me up or a text to speech program...i don't remember finding it.
