What the heck is this supposed to do?

Well, I'm not too sure they're right or wrong..... brighter colors DO burn into the screens easier than darker colors which would make it seem like they are putting out more energy since they burn easier.... who knows.
 
But here's the thing, the color black is actually every color on the spectrum combined, so it should take more energy to recognize all the colors, whereas white is the absence of any color, so it shouldn't take as much energy.

Then again, look at the name of the people that support this shit, "TreeHugger.com" If I wanted to save energy online, I WOULDN'T BE ONLINE.

Well, I'm not so sure about the absence of color being white for monitors... I believe white is made by raising the contrast of EVERY color, therefore making it white...... black is the opposite, lowering the contrast of all colors.... could be wrong, it's happened before... LoL
 
In the real world, black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them. This is sometimes confused with black being called 'a mixture of all colors', but that is not the case. In fact, an object emitting or reflecting all colors is perceived as white.

So shouldn't it take more energy for a monitor to have to recognize every color on the visible spectrum?
 
Well, I do agree in the real world, you are totally correct, but we are talking electronics here.... and I'm sure that CRTs and LCDs are totally different in how they act, but I'd be pretty sure that for a CRT to emit WHITE light, it would take more energy as opposed to black light.. if you look at light bulbs for example, the higher the wattage, the whiter they are....
