There's been a lot of talk about how soccer can become more popular/relevant in the US. Here's a list of my suggestions:

1. Smaller Field- It would make the action a lot faster, and I'm sure the players would appreciate it

2. Let Them Hit Each Other- I'm tired of seeing the yellow and red cards because somebody ran into somebody. Two grown men, running at full speed...it's not like they can stop on a dime. Just let it happen.

3. Stop Between Plays- American TV needs commercials to care, so there needs to be more breaks in plays for the advertisements.

4. Pads- If we're going to make the field smaller, and let them hit each other, they need some sort of protection.

5. Change The Ball (just a little)- The rest of the world is better than us at kicking this perfectly round ball. To give the US a fighting chance, they should alter the shape to make it more difficult to kick, and more unpredictable when it's rolling on the ground. However, aerodynamics should still be considered. For this, I suggest an oval shape.

6. No Feet- The rest of the world is also really good at kicking the ball. So no feet allowed in my new sport.

7. Bigger Goal- The net is already pretty big, but making it bigger would mean more points. And Americans love a high-scoring game. In fact, get rid of the goal. Make a zone on each end of the field, and if the ball crosses the zone, it's a score.

8. Call It Football- And make some sort of a National Football association. Maybe a League.

Then America will give a damn. :usa:

Football dosen't need to do anything, it's already the most popular game in the world, it's just Americans who dont seem to get it, the're too wrapped up in their own sports which no one else is particularly interested in.;)

No feet!!!!! What do they use to "kick" the ball then....No hands remember:ninja

Padding???? Only you guys wear padding in your football, no soccer, rugby or league player wears padding.

My ideas?

Video ref...like in footy...only for contentious decisions so play isnt stopped all the time.

ALso...madatory 2 game suspension for any player proved to be diving/milking...and it can be after the fact too through video evidence. That may stop all the friggin penalty milking.

Wow. Didn't expect to have to explain this one, but it seems to have gone over a few particular heads. The post is a joke. It says that America prefers the NFL to soccer. Wow again.

It should also allow players who have just ran 100 yards to come off the pitch and be given oxygen for their strenuous work.:D

I cant see why, the've already had the worlds best player ever play in their league and host the World Cup and it still hasn't done that much for the sport in the USA, its kind of hard to see what more you could do to get them interested.

They've literally been saying that for decades :dunno

There's no money in soccer here. Our best athletes go into the "major" sports where they can make the biggest paychecks. Conversely, the ones who do stay in soccer go to Europe to earn more.

The teams here won't pay big money til people watch, and people won't watch until we have top talent, which won't happen til the teams pay more. It's a vicious Catch-22.

We caught the world's best player on the down-side of his career. In all fairness, he did generate a ton of excitement for a while, but he wasn't the player he used to be. If Beckham had played here in his prime, he would have done a lot for the sport in the US.
