Our bedtime stories as kids are being shown now in the big screen in a different approach somehow. Have you watched the Hansel and Gretel Get Baked, Snowhite and the Huntsman or Jack the Giant Slayer?

What do you think of the movie adaptations? Do you think they made it more interesting because of some cinematic adjustments and changed on plots and so on? Or you probably find it too overdone?

In my own opinion, I find the adaptations are just right to fit in the new style and demand of the industry today, however, sometimes I miss the classic simplicity of those fairytales I grew up with. But in general, I find it so witty how they came up to such different yet brilliant remake!

Some of them are fine, they just need to find the right talent to fill the roles. I really didn't think Kristen Stewart was the right fit for Snow White and the Huntsman. Charlize Theron made a great villain, though.

I really haven't watched too many of the other ones, including the Hansel and Gretal movie (though I will eventually). That one certainly looks like fun.

I think the best way to approach movie adaptations of these stories is make it as light as possible without insulting the original vision. Disney has certainly sugar coated quite a few of these stories.

I agree with you, I think Kristen Stewart did not give justice to the role, it was awkward to watch her doing that act and yes Charlize was really good in that film. Hansel and Gretel was a great film adaptation too, well sometimes there are scenes where it was too overdone for me but overall it was good, I say, watch it so that you can tell it yourself though.

An example of a good adaptation, and a favorite of my wife, is Ever After. A very good take on a classic fairy tale.

I saw all 3 on your list and here are my views:

Hansel and Gretel - Quite good, not excellent but ok to pass the time. weird incest thing going on though :yuk

Snowhite and the Huntsman - i enjoyed it. Looking forward to the sequel

Jack the Giant Slayer - Good special effects, main actor was a poor choice.

I liked Hansel and Gretel as well. It was a good take on the fairy tale. I didn't like Snow White and the Huntsman though. I felt that they could have done better with the actress for snow white. Kate Stewart was not the right choice for that role and if she in the sequel I will not be watching it. I alao like Jack the Giant Slayer. It was a good movie as well and the effects were good too.

They are actually considering a sequel to that? The movie was passable, but not sequel-worthy.

I have not seen any of those 3 movies to make an accurate assessment. However, I understand that the movies do twist many beloved fairy tales and bedtime stories. Television shows are starting to as well. Just look at the shows like Grimm and Once Upon a Time. I do love to watch Once Upon a Time on Sunday evenings. I love how the writers weave all the beloved characters of fairy tales together. It is an excellent show.

I haven't seen any of the recent fairy-tale movie adaptation. I love fairy-tales, and I have almost read all of the fairy-tale stories. Therefore, any of the fairy-tale movie adaptation is my cup of tea. I also like fairy-tale retellings, which I think they are as good as the classic fairy-tales. I can't wait to watch the fairy-tale movie adaptations you have mentioned in this post.

I like the Disney versions of fairytales. They're funny and highly entertaining. The last Disney movie that tackled a fairytale story was Tangled. It was a CG animated movie about Rapunzel and Disney nailed it perfectly. It was a mixture of action and romance and comedy. I was entertained from beginning to end.

I liked that movie as well and I watch it over and over. I like a lot of the Disney fairytales and I watch a lot of them often. I wonder if they are going to make anymore.

I just really wish someone finally made good film based on 'Tales of 1001 nights'! A thousand years passed and there is still nothing on screen, apart from some unpopular movies from 50s. There are so many beautiful tales, if only someone found an idea and budget.

I love it and I hate it. Love it because I'm a huge fairy-tale fan and enjoy seeing the old and the adaptations one might make. I enjoy seeing my favorite characters coming to life once more.
Hate it because I'm working on fairy-tale retelling novels at the moment, and feel like they'll just be brushed aside when they're finished. I started them a few years ago, a year or so before the fairy-tale adaptation boom happened in movies and tv shows. So I feel like they'll be judged as just following the trend.

I watched all those movies and I liked the storylines of each. I thought that they had brilliant twists to the classic fairy-tale and they brought in some darkness rather than the light that Disney shed upon them (though, I like the Disney tales as well). The graphics were pretty cool to watch on screen. I remember there was a child crying in the theatre when I was watching the Jack movie.

I pretty much LOVE the new adaptions of these fairy tales. I really enjoyed the wizard of oz movie. I don't know if that is considered a fairy tale but either way it was great. I also really liked Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I haven't seen Jack and The Giant Slayer but look forward to watching that one next :) Oh and I didn't really consider "Hansel and Gretel Get Baked" to be the actual movie adaption of the fairy tale lol. It seems more of a mockery but I only saw the preview. It may be funny to watch at some point. Have you seen that one?

I quite enjoyed the premise of Once Upon a Time. Found it really amusing to find all those fairy tales characters living in the real world, and it was fun to slowly discover who everyone was. The parts spent in fantasy land were the show's least interesting parts for me. That's probably why I'm not enjoying the current season as much as the previous.
