I have always thought a good balance of the big ones, reading, writing and arithmetic.

Then of course fine arts (instruments, art etc.)

Then sport's for teamwork building.

Just my opinion. Well rounded schooling builds well rounded young minds. To me at least.

English, at least for me it was. Many profoundly deaf like me have poor reading and writing skills in english because we tend to think in sign language. The school I went to stressed learning english and so did my parents so I was lucky.

They are all important. You didn't specify which age level or grade level tho.

Each of those subjects hold a different type of importance at different age/grade levels.

oh and .. by English .. I'm betting she means grammar not the language itself ;).

I think if there's no balance, or if one is pushed harder that the others, we get into a situation like we're in now with all of the standardized testing: A bunch of blithering idiots that can fill in a bubble, but can't really think for themselves.

art history
