What is the essence of a good Forum which does not close shop and members multiplying.

A good forum which does not close shop and members are multiplying only means that the forum is of great interest and everybody in the group or its members are enjoying posting and sharing their opinions and ideas to every questions asked and most importantly there is what you called unity among the groups with every concerned discussions and topics that are correlated to their own experiences in life.

Totally agreed. I would like to add, the cornerstone of a good forum are moderators who are very firm and fair.

For me it is the activity. If someone joins, makes an intro thread and never contributes any further then they are not an active member.

Activity counts too but what pulls them away. Members play a vital role in making the forum interesting and lively.

Interesting conversation with new topics being started on a very consistent basis. A good moderation team is also important to keep the trolls at bay and keep discussions on track.

Exactly, derailing of threads.

Having people that can start good and interesting threads that can generate a discussion big or small. Also minimizing the number of trolls that just post insulting messaging to create a negative response.

Having interesting topics to discuss and with members making valuable contribution to the discussion. The moderation team is fair and friendly.

They all close up shop in the end, or dwindle in activity to the point that they may as well. Forums are unfortunately a dying form of social media, widely replaced by chat apps such as Whatsapp and Telegram.

If you see members flocking in a forum know that the forum benefits the users in one way or the other.
