What does an omnipotent God need with a hell?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYW_lPlekiQ
http://www.merriam-webster.com/top-ten-lists/top-10-phrases-from-shakespeare/green-eyed-monster.html
Main Entry: 1om·nip·o·tent
1 often capitalized : almighty 1
2 : having virtually unlimited authority or influence <an omnipotent ruler>
A loving God, with unlimited influence, at judgment time, would have no trouble influencing a soul to believe and repent.
That would make the following quote true.

2 Peter 3:9 KJ
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

If God is somehow not able to change the attitude or ideas of the soul, the reason for punishment, then to sent it to eternal torture would serve no purpose and that would mean that punishment would be immoral and no moral God would ever do so.

For those who believe in everlasting punishment I would ask.

What does an omnipotent God need with a hell?

I have a friendly question for you. Why the barrage of anti-religion posts? I mean I agree with most of them, but I think you've made your point along time ago about logical inconsistencies in religious attitudes, the absence of proof hence faith, use of the Bible as a source document.

Human beings can either function on a "show me" basis or a "faith" basis. People operating on faith, don't want to use logic so debate seems to be mostly a waste of time. Not implying I'm not guilty of my own share of critical religious posts, but it seems like your numbers are reaching excessive proportions. Any idea why?

Because for evil to grow, all good men need do is nothing.

It is my view that all literalists and fundamentals hurt all of us who are Religionists.
They all hurt their parent religions and everyone else who has a belief. They make us all into laughing stocks and should rethink their position. There is a God but not the God of talking animals, genocidal floods and retribution. Belief in fantasy is evil.

They also do much harm to their own.

If those like you and I do not oppose and correct, who will?
I see it as my duty and if you do as well then spread the words of reason both here and in other forums.

I am not anti church as I recognize their worth in social and community terms but the way they teach of God is foolish when they invoke fantasy and magical thinking.
I am more of the old Gnostic persuasion where God is within all of us and all Gods are different since all men are so.

I do not want to kill all Gods. Just the miracle working super absentee ones. They are way too immoral.

I also think that all Bible and Words have some wisdom in them but not if read literally or indeed too seriously.

Girdle your loins friend and jump in. The life you save may be your children's or grand children's.

I believe that there is no everlasting punishment in the first place. What kind of sadistic god would send anyone to burn in eternal fire? I refuse to acknowledge a tyrant like that who rules with fear. That's not the god I believe even exists.

this.

Hell is a man made/church concept used to intill fear in the masses. How could the leaders get people into their churches if there was no fear of punishment if they DIDN'T go.

I agree with Dana. If we didn't have bad we wouldn't know what good was.
If people couldn't be sad then we'd have no reasons to be happy or even know what it is.
Without death would we really appreciate life?

And it's a lot easier to say people decide where they are going, heaven or hell. Most people know before they get there.

God is Omnipotent but he is also Omnipresent meaning he is everywhere always. That means God is in burning in hell as well. Think about that for a moment.
So it doesn't matter if you go to heaven or hell after death, you WILL be with God.

I have a question for you Greatest I am, what faith are you?

You would likely be right.

Does your girl friend have to slap you silly before screwing you?
Do you need to eat the crap of your plate before enjoying desert?
Do try to think things through before speaking.

Strange that you do not instinctively know that you do not need to be bitch slapped to know that you would not like to be bitch slapped.

Both of you must belong to some S & M club.
Enjoy the pain so that you can know how good life is without it.

My signature shows my belief.
I call myself a Deist without a creator God.

I don't know if I would call Deism a faith. A belief system perhaps but not faith.
My beliefs come from facts, not faith.

Why the impulse to call names? Is this guy trampling your religion?

This saying you refer to is there any wisdom attached to it or does it just sound snappy? What exactly does it mean to you? Why does there have to be "bad" along with the "good"? I don't see it.
