Had a discussion at work about this, here's my list:

Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
We Were Soldiers
Apocalypse Now
Heartbreak Ridge (Not much of a war, but still a great movie )

Apocolypse now, even though I can only watch it so often because it is a tad long-winded... Still good though!

Black Hawk Down, mainly because I like Ridley Scott, even if it is a little patriotic

But I had real trouble remembering 5 I like.

We Were Soliders all i could remember was about 20 bloody GORGEOUS wives waiting for their men to come home, and Deer Hunter was boring compared to the Russian roulette scene

I really struggled though that book because people said it was really good, and towards the end it was better but it didn't justify the preceding at all for me.
And the movie I enjoyed even less.

Hate to tell you this but thats a fantasy film, the real story of William Wallace is 10 times more interesting, especially how he raped a nun.

Quite a few very good movies in that.
Patriot, Braveheart (although that is more of a chick flic IMO), saving private ryan, the thin red line, we were soldiers, troy, the kingdom is kind of ish an iraqi war movie, the longest day, tora tora tora, atilla, alexander, glory, schindlers list, full metal jacket, gladiator, platoon, all is quiet on the western front, gone with the wind. So many decent war movies, so little time

I prefer Savng Private Ryan, we were soldier, and gladiator.
