Or was he? I dunno, I don't know that much about him other than reading a book or two here and there. What's his legacy? What were the things he got right? Things he got wrong? Educate me.

He was very charismatic and horny as hell

He did some good things and bad like others before and after

He will be judged favorably in some respects as the economy flourished during his years but that was more luck IMO due to the Dot Com boom. And one could say it was a decade of greed.

I voted for him. The thing that he did wrong was not admit right away he let Monica L blow him off in office. If he had just went ahead and admitted it right away instead of lying under oath he would have been remembered better. We've had better we've had worse..... I sure as hell liked him better than either President Bushes.

Clinton was a decent president. He balanced the budget, reformed welfare, and did lots for education. He was also good at negotiating with congress.

Of course like AA said, you could also argue that he was just riding on the coattails of a good economy.

The biggest problem for his image was that his personal life got mixed in with his political life and everyone latched onto that. It will be a while before people take a more objective look at his presidency instead of focusing on the Lewinsky scandal.

He forced over 286,000 members of our Military out of service. I am not a fan of that.

He also smoked some weed at some point, and got some head. I'm not mad at him for either of those.

I'd drink a beer with Bill Clinton ANY DAY, and I'm not even a Democrat. He just seems like a cool dude.

Besides, you have to be cool to deal with Hillary.

He was one of the best presidents within the past 3 decades. People liked him because he seemed down to Earth. People only turned on him when MonicaGate came about. Personally, I don't think it's any different from Joe Blow having an affair, its just he was in the public spotlight so he caught shit for it in the media. I remember when he was on Arseno.

He was a pragmatist that knew the political game.

I don't think he had any core issues that he would fight to the finish on.

I too would love to sit down and chew the fat over beers with him even though we have different political views.

He reduced the military at a time it should have been reduced, and did it by only a fraction of he should have ... I thought the same back then, and I was active duty at the time.

The first thought that came to mind when I saw the op was "there is a thin line between wisdom and cunning." I'm not sure there really is a line at all. Clinton approached the presidency like an urban cowboy rides the mechanical bull. Give when necessary, push when necessary, stay on top as long as you can. In that, he was successful. I don't recall him coming in with any original agenda or idea.

He has to be at the top of my list of Presidents when compared to the competition of what has come after, although this is extremely tempered with his administration passing NAFTA, a flagrant jobs exportation treaty. :(
