There's democracy, Propaganda, democracy and propaganda! Sometimes these things need to take their course before anyone jumps in, guns blazing!

Peter, my friend. Here is what really chaps me.

We can limit our dependence on foreign oil, it is possible. But here we have that "Not in my backyard" syndrome.

We all want to drive 18 wheelers to drop our kid's off at school, and we are thirsty for more oil. But we would rather deal with psychotic tyrants, who corrupt governments, harm their own people, torture and mame women and children and threaten us. Then to adopt a domestic drilling plan that works, and work towards alternative fuels so we can tell all of them to take a hike.

In the nice politically correct way that is.

No worries BB. If he didn't sell to us, he would have to sell to somebody else. That means the oil that "somebody else" used to buy is now up for sale.

See how that works. Total world consumption stays the same.

The only way he could do it and affect us, would be to not sell his oil to anybody. But he can't do that, because his country is totally dependant on it.

I would rather be in our shoes, than theirs. They are dependant on us buying from them what we can get from somewhere else. :D

There is some degree of accuracy in that. Basically one of the main reasons we try to stay in bed with who we choose to is also to keep a close political watch on them. Who we do not want them to sell to are the Chinese, and make no bones about it, we do as a nation have a lot more limited access to il than you think. It's not as cut and dry as them being totally needing us. We need them to, for a lot of reasons.

The main one being cost, they can produce thousands of barrels cheaper than we can one barrel because the environmental policies they have is a joke at best, the labor they have is a fraction of a fraction of what ours is.
And the price they pay to maintain safety in the workplace...A joke

However, the "savings" we receive for these atrocities is not reflected at the pump, or on the Exchange. In the end, we are funding the cause they have more than anything. We are giving them the greenlight to invoke horror and atrocities on their own people because Barbara Streisand doesn't want to kill a Cairabou in Alaska (I of course do not either).

But I hate the idea that we are paying into a countries policy that ineveitably ends with attack on our culture here, and abroad.

We are paying to forge the sword that cuts us.

Can't fault your arguement there!

The MadMan, Chavez has spoken again.

Any guesses on how long it will be before we shot him, or invade his country?

Chavez says 'no oil' if U.S. tries to meddle in vote - USATODAY.com

THIS...THIS is why we need to drop our dependence on foreign oil.

Period

I couldn't agree with you more. It is no difference than personal finances. Who's in control of your life ... you or the people you are in debt to? We, as a country, need to be as self reliant as possible.

As for Chavez - he's a nut and I won't be surprised if some sect of his own country doesn't eventually off him.
