Congratulations, now you'll win the Euro's, the next World Cup, the 2012 boat race, the best picture oscar at next years academys, develop a cure for the common cold and win the samba dance contest in Brazil.

That's how these things usually work anyway.

The only problem for England with this victory now is the press and people like yourself (because you read the heil) will be expecting England to actually do all that. And then when they don't (which they won't) the same papers and people will have a go. It's a good victory yes, it should be used as a morale boost, but there is no reason to think this could ever lead to becoming automatic righteous winners of the real stuff.

I was being sarcastic, as highlighted in the third paragraph when I mentioned the over the top reaction by the british media when something like this happens. In 2005 for example England beat Argentina 3-2 in a friendly, got two late goals to win it. On Talkshite straight afterwards the phones were jammed with fans saying "we're gonna win the World Cup!"

Seven months later, England go to the World Cup, play relatively poorly, and go out on penalties, again. This is why results like this can't be taken too seriously. They can be appreciated yes, they can be remembered certainly. But they shouldn't be used as a measuring stick as to how far England can go in the next tournament.

The first half was all Spain, in possession, they had a half chance here and there but England couldn't get near the, and when they did it was just hoof the ball up to Bent who lost it. Wash, rinse repeat. It was a better performance in the second half, the goal was a tad lucky with the way the ball bounced, but you have to take those chances. Then England had the impetus, they looked a lot better going forward even though Adam Johnson was awful and Downing wasn't much better. Jack Rodwell was fine and Welbeck did what he could with the inferior players around him than what he's used to at club level. The Spanish hate pace because the game tactically isn't set up to necessarily deal with the pace. Ramos might have been sent off on another day, it was cynical more than dirty though.

The game didn't show up a lot what I didn't already know. England were sound defensively without having a good outball for the majority of the match. Spain passed and passed and passed without blowing the house down, which I'd attribute more to not having a natural centre forward on like Llorente or not having Xavi in the second half.

The only young England players I'd really be excited about are Welbeck, Rodwell, Cleverley and perhaps Henderson at a stretch. The others aren't really worth jack shit unless I'm missing someone obvious.

Hmm ok, Wilshere's a fair one. My only concern with him is, and this is what's keeping him out at the moment, is playing too many games for Arsenal. Last season he played 49 times for Arsenal. To me that's too much for a 18 year old, yeah he's young, full of energy and sprightly but everyone knows how burnout happens. It's precisely why Sir Alex doesn't play his youngsters every game, and hasn't ever done that. Wilshere's present injury problems are caused by that.

I don't rate Walcott as it happens, I think he's a bit of a headless chicken. Average delivery, decent finisher but doesn't get too many opportunities to do so with playing where he does. He's a better Aaron Lennon.

Oh yeah, big Phil. He'll be a star that lad. Best decision of his life coming to United. No disrespect to Blackburn but he's only going to learn a certain amount there, which is fine if you want to reach a certain level, but I think his aim is to become a recognised International and a successful player, and to do that he had to move to a bigger club.

I think Rooney's found his position now, deeper lying striker/midfielder. He gets a lot more licence to do what he likes now, if that means he has to take the odd yellow card for the team so be it, but the team will benefit because of his link up play. That's what England will miss in the Euro's, no other player can do his job.

to be honest....i hate seeing rooney as an out and out striker,he can run with the ball and that creates havoc in a defence

Congrats to England on wining the match.

I saw it and I can say two things.

A Spanish team that doesn't finish the actions, a lot of possession but no danger for England. I think in friendly match like yesterday's one, we don't need two defensive midfielders as Xavi Alonso and Busquets are. Instead of that, I'd choose to play with another attacking midfielder as Fábregas. Nonetheless, I still rely on Spain and I know when official games come, our game will be more brilliant.

An English team with many doubts, I wouldn't like to go to Wembley to watch my team playing home, and see nine players on their own area. Friends, England should have another identity, you invented this game, you have thousand of people encouraging you. I yesterday saw a team that was not able to make three pass in a row. I think Capello's plan went well yesterday, but yesterday England was a very lucky team.

Regards from Spain.

One thing to also add, this was a team without Wilshere, Gerrard, Rooney, Young, Terry etc. Four players you'd expect to start normally in a competitive game, and you could argue a case for Gerrard if he's fully fit and firing.

I was impressed with the defensive set-up, the willingness to run at Spanish defenders from the wide positions (I've always said: get at Ramos, he's vastly overrated)

Personally, I don't care if England play defensively at home if it gets results. It's foolish to think this current crop of players can play pleasing football. The Premier league with it's emphasis on foreign imports, speed and physical endurance has put a stop to that. (just watch the 1970 world cup game between Brazil and England and see how good that England were at ball retention.)
Spain have the advantage of very technically proficient players, as do Brazil, Holland etc, but England have the advantage of very strong, fit, and quick players. England can play the game at a pace that makes life uncomfortable for any team, and that needs to be utilised more often.

I think you can't win a game only running, and yesterday was very sad to see a team totally enclosed into his own area. I really don't get surprised, because we suffered Capello twice in Real Madrid, and that was his kind of game. Players who you told me, I don't really appreciate them much...Only Wilshere can be more beneficial for the team, but Terry (Bad defender, great mistakes), Gerard (out of fit) and Rooney(It's not playing almost all Eurocup). What you saw yesterday is what you get, and again, you were very lucky wining yesterday, with no more than three passes in a row.

And I really think that if they were playing an official match, the final score would be other.

And by the way, since Mourinho has placed Ramos as central defender instead of as right defender, he's more effective and remains more concentrate. If you check out the games he's done since Carvalho's injury, I bet Real Madrid didn't recieved more than one goal.

We'll see in the Eurocup...

Won't be the next tournament, suspending for all the group games after the idiot pointlessly assualted someone on the pitch. I swear I'm finding it increasingly difficult to support or care about the England football team, a team mainly full of cunts and captained by the biggest cunt of them all. Normally I would be full of joy about this result but as it is, I'm not celebrating and I couldn't give a toss.
