Alright after many years of it topping my To Read List, I discovered a copy of War & Peace at my boyfriend's house. I nicked it and am now going to read it!

What I'd like to do is get someone to read it with me. I tend to give up easily on big books, especially Russian literature, which is odd because I adore Russian literature. I'd like to have someone read it with me where we'd set twice-weekly targets...like say read to Page 50 by Thursday and then we'll discuss it then. You know?

Anyone want to read War & Peace with me?

When you're done w/that you should move on to "The Art of War". I've heard many say that is also a great read....

I too don't read as much as I used to. Too busy.

Sounds like a great idea, but I just can't handle Tolstoy right now.

Dr. Seuss is about all my attention span can cope with these days.

You know that really is a great idea and probably the only way I'd ever get past the cover of 'Crime and Punishment.'

It's been a while but I do recall enjoying that book. It's quite short too so very readable.

So you want to do it with me then????

I do have that book. I've had it for years but could never bring myself to start the mammoth task of reading it. How much do you initially plan to read a day? I could certainly try reading it with you - unless you're a mega fast reader in which case I'd fall behind :)

I wouldn't call myself a mega fast reader by any stretch. Maybe...10-15 pages a day? The font is uber tiny in my copy. We can always reassess at any given point though.

That sound doable to me. Mine is a paperback that also has uber tiny fonts so 10-15 sounds good but as you say, we can revisit that depending on how it's going.

Let me know when you want to start so I'll start reading that day too.

Shall we say tomorrow as the start date? Or is the weekend maybe better? We could always start tomorrow but check in on weekends?

Sounds good. I'll start today then and we'll see how it goes. Can check up on weekends or whenever to discuss, whatever suits. :)

Quite likely :p

Read up to just prior to chapter 5 in the soirée. Anna is quite the hostess, nervous or not and I find myself liking the vicomte. Pierre at the moment seems an oath who through his actions (and inaction) manages to put the proverbial foot in his mouth but doesn't realise/doesn't care.

The first soirée scenes that I've read contain moments of humour and so much detail. The detail. Egads! It's going to be interesting keeping up with this level of detail.

lol but it's true! Russians + War has to = Awesome

I am in between things to do right now... and my online school is like down right now so I could totally be up for reading a book. I'm always either really really busy, or just not at all. Right now I am not at all because I got back from a trip to do research on a glacier and I gave myself a few days to recover before I gotta be busy again! I am reading My Sister's Keeper right now, but I am finishing it soon so I don't know what I am going to read next... hmmmmmm... maybe I should hang out with my best friend, she probably thinks I am dead lol
