When many people think about volunteering their time at a nursing home by visiting with the residents, they often think that kind of work would be too sad.

However, as someone who has performed volunteer work in nursing homes, I don't quite agree.

To me, if you elect to volunteer at a nursing home, you have to view it as an opportunity to help people. And considering that a lot of nursing home residents really appreciate
volunteers taking time out of their busy schedule to spend time with them, volunteering at nursing homes can be anything but depressing. Instead, it can be very rewarding.

It's not easy being a volunteer at the Nursing Homes because I have seen some people would actually take an advantage of you. I have worked at the Nursing Home before, which I was a RN. I have two volunteers who helps me to take care a few patients. One of the patients would not want any volunteer near him, and that's just sad because it's kind of a behavioral problem. When one of the volunteers no longer is about to leave the place, that patient starts asking me if he can have the volunteer to help him make the bed. Well, at least the Nursing Home doesn't accept any volunteer anymore.
