I pose this question to you folks, are we self centered enough to think that we can contribute more damage to the atmosphere than what is currently being done in Iceland?

IMHO, we shouldn't be concerned about destroying the Earth, it's resilient, its been around for many o' years. We should be worried about the earth being sick of our shit and getting rid of us.

You've just demonstrated a completely lack of knowledge about this.

Nobody is more skeptical about Climate Change than me, but volcanic eruptions are not something that the Earth has to be "resilient" against. They're integral to it's ongoing cycles.

Good point, I could have explained my position better, the correlation I was throwing out there was more, how can we do all this damage when it does this shit to itself?

The problem is you need figures - how much C02 are we actually putting into the atmosphere in correlation to the status quo of the atmosphere, while bearing in mind the carrying capacity of our world in terms of Carbon dioxide is by no means definite or fixed.
But the data that is presented isn't reliable, you've got hippies on one side editing the findings; and fat cat tycoons on the other doing exactly the same.

Of course, there is the so called, independent research. To those who believe in this, I'd advise them to stop being quite so naive. There is no such thing as "independent" research. Somebody, somewhere, has to pay for all this "independence."

I agree with you 100%, its impossible to get concrete evidence when it comes to climate change/global warming/cooling. The first problem is that, like you pointed out, its impossible to get unbiased information. Second of all, how reliable is this information even if it was completely unedited? The earth has been around for millions of years, we cannot get enough information to know that even if the world is heating up, if it's strictly a cycle.

As far as I know, volcanoes dont make big holes in the ozone layer or increase global warming. If anything, this one has helped the environment by grounding tons of polluting airplanes for a few days.

Volcanoes definatley contribute to global warming, although that's the wrong term. That's no secret. It doesn't take a genius to work out that an eruption releases a hell of a lot more C02 in the atmosphere than a few planes.

They also, have the aiblity to plunge large areas of the world into volcanic winter. Sounds like climate change (the correct term) to me!
