video editing software?

anybody have recommendations on video editing software? ive never even done this before so i would prefer it to be pretty basic and straight forward. im not trying to do anything super fancy, just basic stuff. sooooo what would you recommend? muchas gracias.

Windows Movie Maker is good, it comes built into Windows XP. Then there is Virtual Dub Mod which is free.
