Obviously, you cant stereotype all of it but in general, what do you find is the difference (apart from the USA misspelling the word "humour")?
I personally find UK humour is more about clever sarcasm, Aussie humour is more about being shocking and USA humour is more about taking the piss out of everyone else so they look good but in a very family friendly manner.:D

British humour is crueler I think. A lot of the comedy personalities from Britain are deliberatley flawed. Be it either being fat, ginger, arrogant, drunk, or just a complete twat. We laugh at them, not with them. This is particularly true of the sitcoms and shows, and to some extent the stand up.

As for American comedy, there's a lot of different strings to that bow. I mean, their sitcoms are terrible. They have no comedic or artistic merit. Just look up a random clip of The Big Bang Theory or Two and a half men... But then films like Tropic Thunder and such are brilliant....

For me, American humour works best in stand-up situations, they rule at that. When I lived in NY there was a comedy club in Manhattan we used to go to, absolutely brilliant, much better than Jongleurs I'd say and certainly NOT family friendly!! That goes for the canucks too, their stand up comics are brilliant.

I think the british humour works best in the Office and Spaced line of things. Subtle, awkward and smart, loaded with great references. And of course Monty Python who took intellectualism right down to the gutter and back. Utter genius. My favourite is Yes, Minister. Clever and witty and frighteningly close to the bone...

Australian's also rule at stand-up. Great observationists (I think I just made that word up...)

I think almost all American sitcoms are shit. Odd, though, that the ONLY one I've found funny in the last 10 years or so is one you mention as a bad example: The Big Bang Theory. I think it's hysterical.

I agree with the American stand up view though the ones I find funny seem to be bigger over here.

Here's asn example of the stand up that I like from these three countries

Reginald D Hunter - USA

Jim Jeffries -Australia

YouTube - Jim Jefferies: I Swear To God - World Cup (HBO)

Jack Dee - UK

I think this guy is the absolute cream of the crop in American stand-up today:

I think I saw Reginald D Hunter on a rare comedy night in Marbella - absolutely brilliant!
