Here's a big bit:

The surprise announcement by Rose Gottemoeller, a US assistant secretary of state, that America would like every nation – including Israel – to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT) has sent shockwaves through Tel Aviv, confirming the fears (or hopes, depending on who you ask) that the Obama administration is initiating a major overhaul of its policy on nuclear proliferation in the Middle East.
The Israeli government will certainly challenge the Obama administration on this issue, as Israel is not likely to *co-operate, to put it mildly, with the state department's new logical, fair-minded approach to non-proliferation.
It was none other than Avigdor *Lieberman, the Israeli foreign minister, who declared – with a quite a bit of *chutzpah – that the US government would adopt whatever policy Israel dictated. But Israelis should realise that the American president cannot be reduced to a puppet of the Israeli government.

I continue to wonder why we give multiple billions in defense $$ to other nations when we need those billions here (especially when we have Veterans sleeping on our streets) and those nations are fully capable of defending themselves from attack. Geo-politics... and our tax-dollars foot the bill....

Until we find an alternative to oil we will continue to send money to the mideast. We have no need to directly control the flow of oil but have to ensure nobody on the other side has control.

So like it or not we are stuck with the policy.

Obama can huff and puff all he wants but not much will change. Israel is going to do as it pleases to protect itself.

imagine if you will.....you live in a country who's people have been persecuted for the best part of 3000 years, even in this day and age its neighbouring countries would happily see its destruction......would you do what was required to defend that country?

As Israel should. Considering Israel has nukes of their own, I imagine they are quite capable of defending themselves from their enemies. Tho, Barack did mention a couple of weeks ago that the blank checks to Israel are a thing of the past and pouf! look how quick Netanyahu got over here to say 'hey?!'

Skyblue, as I responded to Alien Allen, they have nuclear weapons and they are quite capable of defending themselves from their enemies.

Since it is apparent that Israel is fully capable of dropping a nuke on whomever she chooses, why they expect a blank check from us for defense every year is a bit puzzling. As I said in my original post, we need those billions here. Especially when we have Veterans sleeping on our streets and in need or medical care they are not getting.

hehehehehehehe.....Tho Israel better hope she doesn't find boat-loads of her own oil or we might decide to INVADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

It was one of the platforms I liked about Ron Paul. Cut foreign defense aid because we need those multiple billions here at home. Period. Especially to countries fully capable of defending themselves if need be.
