This was four years ago. Facility has already settled, now to sue the surgeon.

I didn't even realise Penile cancer existed...

Article said:
A truck driver in Kentucky whose penis was amputated during an operation is suing the surgeon, claiming it was done without his consent.

Phillip Seaton says his penis was removed during what was supposed to have been a circumcision to treat inflammation four years ago.

Dr John Patterson says he amputated because he found life-threatening cancer during the operation.

The Seatons have already sued Jewish Hospital, where the surgery took place.

The facility settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

So...wait. You pee to keep yourself healthy. Get impurities out of the body. So if the dude has no wang...how does he take care of that? And I his sex life is probably..nonexistent now. :)

He probably has some sort of catheter or something like that.

You don't need a penis to piss... Jesus, how do you think women pee? They don't need a catheter.

Someone is having a case of the Mondays. :wtf:

Typically they install a permanent catheter in those patients because after your wang is chopped off you're left with a stub, and your urethra just kind of hangs out there.

Certainly you CAN piss without one, but I imagine it is easier with the aide of the catheter.

This story was in the news last week ago and a buddy asked if I had seen the story. Both of us made the same comment that never had heard of that type of cancer. Testicular yes but not penile.

As far as I know, penile cancer is another of the HPV related cancers. Cervical, penile, esophageal, and anal.

These come to mind:

1) it says on the report as quoted:
Clay Robinson, a lawyer for Dr Patterson, defended his client and insisted the doctor had only removed the tip of the penis after he had found cancer and claimed Mr Seaton had signed a document authorising necessary treatment in unforeseen circumstances.

Hence imo,

** If such were the case that he consented to necessary treatment...., then it would have been explained to him what to expect.
** If there was a pre-diagnosis of probable cancer maybe from previous pathological tests and biopsies done etc which warranted the surgeon to resort to circumcision at his age of 64 and prove otherwise that it's not just inflammation as Mr Seaton states
** If there were photos to show of what was taken out of his penis and/or pieces sent to pathology for tests/confirmation of cancer ( hoping that those pieces were saved under formaldehyde to show proofs
** If proper documentation by the MD is present to state how much was taken out, as also witnessed or notes made by surgical team/nurses/anesthesiologists etc- ( as it states on other news reports, the claim that another surgeon took out the rest of Mr Seaton's penis.:ninja)

then there is a probability, the surgeon might be spared from being charged.

I am just hoping there are more info provided in this report as it's hard to judge who went wrong without all the information needed to establish a case against the surgeon.

As even if the hospital had already settled doesn't mean they have accepted 100 % fault. It might be that they just wanted to have the case dismissed to not interrupt with the hospital business/operation etc.

Since maybe the hospital doesn't have it in their legal doctrines *Respondeat Superior* to cover the surgeon legally hence the lawsuit against the said surgeon.

Facts:

Penile cancer is very rare indeed.

It's not related to the HPV cancers. If one has history of HPV, it makes a male person more prone to penile cancer.

Had only seen 1 patient with penile cancer in my years of practice.

It's mostly common in uncircumcised males.

If penis had been removed as in his case, a catheter or a urethral catheter is inserted. The only reason one wasn't done for Mr Seaton is the fact that the surgeon was concerned due to the extent of the damage from the cancer that he might develop urinary retention causing more bladder problems. Hence depends on the needs of a patient with penis amputation- be it's necessary/ helpful for a urethral cathether inserted or not- either way, he can still be able to urinate.

Given the number of documents one has to sign before getting operated on I find it hard to believe he was not warned of the possibilities.

In which case I hope the doctor counter sues and gets money from the guy.

Next time a doctor goes in under these circumstances they should make the fucking idiot patients sign on their dick that they are not to cut it off I guess :willy_nilly:

Now if the doctor and hospital did mess up that is an entire different matter. But I am doubting it.

Shit like this costs this country tons of money when people are warned and find a way to still sue. I got messed over by a lawyer this year only because I never put in writing what could go wrong. He sure as hell was told multiple times what could be wrong but he had me over a barrel
