Well?

Not a complete list:

The Dark Knight
Watchmen (actually it might be 09)
Sin City 2 (same as Watchmen..)
Utopia
King Shot
Max Payne
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Quantum of Solace
Pineapple Express
Righteous Kill
Burn After Reading
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Red State
The Road
The Anarchist's Wife
Encounters at the End of the World

So many movies are coming. The one thing is, it's harder to know what indie films are coming (there's only a few on my list), because they don't play them at big theatres here and they aren't marketed as much. It's a shame. But I know Utopia and King Shot will be awesome, if either of them actually get released this year.

Might be fun cuz it's 3D... otherwise I'd never see it.

3D has come a long way since those red and blue sunglasses, It's actually pretty cool now.

Of course in a few years we'll look back and laugh at Beowulf and Journey to the Centre of the Earth :)

I want to see the Dark Knight, but I didn't like the first one, but Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan are deserved of another chance from me.

lol Do we ever agree on movies? I love Batman Begins... it actually got me more into Batman. Before that movie I was always iffy on the guy. Now I've read some comics and all that good stuff.

It's nice to see Bale get recognized though. He's always been a great actor but he's done a lot of low key movies. Now people know him... of course, I reckon a lot of people know him mainly as Batman. I could be wrong though. I came up with that opinion a year or two ago.

Ah I've always been into Batman, and the best reportrayal of Batman there has ever been was actually the Animated series that ran in the mid 90's ish. It WAS a kids program, but got cancelled for being too dark. And bugger me, was it dark, filled with black humour and mentally disturbed psychopaths.

Batman Begins for me was like the rapture to a devout Christian. It was what I had waited for, a big film that could pay homage finally to the brilliance of the Batman comics, and capture how dark and twisted they could be. A good cast (bar a few exceptions) and a fantastic director...
And then I saw it and it just let me down, perhaps my expectations were too high....

As for Bale, I think Batman would be his step from sort of mid level popularity films, like American Psycho and The Machinist into big big time.
I'd be interested to see a lot of the old British and Welsh cinema stuff he did before that though

I know the animated series you're talking about and agreed that it's great.

What let you down about Begins, specifically?
I thought it was wonderfully directed, with great usage of light and shadows (movie would have failed if it didn't have that... I mean... it's Batman...). The cast was good, as you said, and one of those exceptions is Katie Holmes isn't it? The script was a little wonky, some of the plot was slightly dumb but it made up for it with lines like "SWEAR TO ME!" But the Nolans have more input into the screenplay this time around so I think it'll be even better.

So, about the Dark Knight, how much do you know about it? You being a Batman fan for a while, what do you think of the idea that the Joker is
mainly just a destructive force with no real background?
It's not much of a spoiler but maybe it is so whatever, it's a spoiler about his past.

I hope this one lives up to whatever expectations you have because it's shaping up to be an insta-classic, due to hype and reviews I've seen and all that.

lol I'd love to be able to tell you what specifically let me down about it, mainly because I feel so... ignorant, for want of a better word, to just say I didn't enjoy Batman Begins, I actually would be interested in seeing it again, to see why. Because I saw it when it came out and obviously only once.

As for the Joker, he personally was one of my favourite villains from the comics, and I think what you wrote about could work, because the Joker is meant to be a highly disturbed sociopath (forgive me if I got it wrong and he technically is not a sociopath lol, I never studied psych), and while back stories for characters can be insightful, sometimes they can be superfluos. I guess what I am trying to say is, is it truely neccessary to explain why the Joker is a nutter? Can it not be more compelling to an audience if we actually don't know why he's so messed up?

Well come over and watch Begins with me then, lol.

I was iffy on how the Joker would be portrayed when I found that out, originally. He has an interesting back story, but it's not that interesting... interesting enough to make it necessary. So as time has gone on, I've put more faith in Nolan and come to realize that the Joker as just a destructive force of nature is awesome. I like when he randomly pops up in comics, and Batman is just like "not the Joker, not now!"

Same with Superman. I don't like Superman but I like when he pops up to fight Batman. Anyways.

Batman has gone through some severe changes since it first took shape as a TV show back in the 60's.
From a comedic look at it (Adam West) to a dark mystery as we had with Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson. Truth be told the first Batman movie back in 1989 wasn't too bad actually; you knew the sequels would be coming but they showed no true darkness of the character. They tried miserably to make it sound like we all knew of Bruce Wayne/Batman's beginnings. When I did see Batman Begins it once again tried to put a spin on the early history of the story but it seemed too....FAKE? are we going to have Batman re-invented every ten years?

...help me Obi Wan Kenobi......you're my only hope.....
