A federal judge ruled on Monday that the stop-and-frisk tactics of the New York Police Department violated the constitutional rights of minorities in the city, repudiating a major element in the Bloomberg administration’s crime-fighting legacy.

Thats right the practice only came under the light due to "racially biased"...in other words...what we are doing is wrong but since minorities are affected we have a problem.

The judge called for a federal monitor to oversee broad reforms, including the use of body-worn cameras for some patrol officers, though she was “not ordering an end to the practice of stop-and-frisk.”

Thats right read above...not ordering an end to it...now read below

In her 195-page decision, Judge Scheindlin concluded that the stops, which soared in number over the last decade as crime continued to decline, demonstrated a widespread disregard for the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government, as well as the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause.

In other words here is the public announcement of fuck you we will violate you but now equally.

“I also conclude that the city’s highest officials have turned a blind eye to the evidence that officers are conducting stops in a racially discriminatory manner,” she wrote, citing statements that Mr. Bloomberg and the police commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, have made in defending the policy.

You will have to read the article...the stop and frisk has been going on in certain neighborhoods...you guessed it the troubled neighborhoods have more minorities this more pat down..has nothing to do with race.

This is a big fail...This abuse has been going on for several years....when it hit the court the ruling was a joke.

The gist I got is it was supposed to be imposed for everyone but the police force were racially profiling minorities and the poor because they apparently look like like thieves. Seriously.....they are frisking {searching} people without cause.
They have a 10 percent arrest rate ....many of these people will have an outstanding warrant or a controlled substance on them...in other words they dont even have a 10 percent success rate on guns.which what they claim they are after...Dana this is a very very poor success rate.
This means these searches are RANDOM.

It is imposed on everyone....and NO ONE give a shit until the race card was pulled.
They can still harass whoever they want...but has to be proportionate.
Additionally they werent racially profiling minorities they were frisking people in certain neighborhoods{high crime} which just happen to have more minorities.

Inst this profiling?...where is the outrage?
So it appears as if males are the largest target with minorities being the second....but remember this is done in certain neighborhoods{high crime} {which happens to be minority}
But even high crime neighborhoods have women...granted they may consist of a high percentage of minorities but they still have plenty of women.
This means that men are the main target and not minorities !

I go to NY all the time, and I have seen this done. It is humiliating. I am all about safety, but not when it violate people civil, and human rights, and dignity. With all the cameras and surveillance they have around the city, they don't need to stop people to find guns.

Again, you try and scaremonger with nonsense. My granny's not getting frisked, and neither are my kids.It's not a crime to walk down the street, and the searches are not random. They are profiled to neighbourhoods with a proven record of issues and to target groups with statistically high record of offending.
