During a recent debate over a bill that would make it necessary for women to buy separate, abortion-only insurance policies to cover the expensive procedure, some Kansas lawmakers questioned whether it was realistic to expect women to prepare in advance for a rape or an unplanned pregnancy.
Rep. Pete Degraaf (R-Mulvane), in response, compared an accidental pregnancy to a flat tire.
"We do need to plan ahead, don't we, in life?" said Degraaf during the House debate. "I have a spare tire on my car."

He's got a spare tire attached to his neck as well, IMO. Nothing but air up there.

I hardly even want to dignify talk like this with a click on the link. Say what you want about anything else regarding conservatives versus liberals, but some republicans lately have been downright sickening in their attitudes towards women's health issues.

Is it very expensive? I would have thought the pill they can give you up to a certain point wouldn't be that much, it's an out-patient thing here.

I guess if they mean an abortion that requires going to a hospital then it'd be more expensive, but then so is heart surgery compared to angina pills and they don't charge you separately for that.

I say that like I know but I don't have health insurance, we have an NHS :dunno

So why doesn't he require men to carry this additional health insurance in case they inadvertently knock up some girl? When did this become the girls problem and the guy gets to walk away Scot-free?

Ok, I just read the whole article and a lot of the comments.

It seems that people do not understand what this article is saying.

Unintended pregnancies are costing the tax payers $11billion a year. NOT abortions.
The article goes on to say that the cutting of family planning services are leading to more unwanted pregnancies which is costing us more.

If you read some of the comments on the article, they believe that the $11billion is tax dollars being spent on abortion. Where it's actually illegal to use federal tax dollars for abortions.

Do abortions save money then?

Wait, wouldn't an unwanted pregnancy cost as much as a wanted one? Wait, what?

Abortions do save money, humans are expensive :ninja

I think it just means that the lack of services (birth control pills, free condoms, abortions) for low income US citizens (budgets being cut, etc) have resulted in more pregnancies, which are costing more. Said pregnancies resulting from a lack of education and resources could be called unwanted, I guess.
