Unicorns are a bit like the Lochness monster, people have "Taken photos" and seen it up close, but everyone thinks they are a bunch of looneys.. Personally, I can't say they aren't real, but I can't say they are real either, until I see one, I'm just keeping them to Matilde land

Dunno...I think it perhaps existed at one time.

I just don't get how one would think of a magical horse and "invent" a horn sticking out of it's head.

People came up with things all the time, someone could have seen a horse and it could have been misty and then saw it as magical, they probably told someone else and they "Saw" it too and then it was just one big story, when originally it was just an unclear day with a horsey

Things can be taken way out of context...

There are hundreds of explanations you could come up with as to what they saw, I'm not saying that I don't believe that they could be real, I'm just saying it is very unlikely..
