Tracking Someone Down?

Basically, I want to know if it's possible to find out where someone has been posting, like on message boards, forums etc, if all the information you have is their IP address.

Is that something that can be done? From what I can tell, it's easier to find out where someone lives than what I actually want

Nice idea but I tried that already, I'm pretty sure there are different usernames being used because I'm getting nothing useful from that apart from a load of dead ends :ninja thanks though, that was my first thought too.

LOL I promise there are no nasty intentions involved, it's a bit of a long story though. There's just a group of us that would be very interested to see where a couple of people we know have planted themselves, since they've started trying to get people we know over to their 'side'. I suck at the whole online detective thing though.

It depends on how much of an internet trail they leave. It gets tricker if their user name is really common but it's not impossible.

the minimum would be a username as a lot of people use the same username wherever they go, same thing with email address, IP could be useful too.

I've become rather skilled at eStalking... I had to do it for work for a little while a few years back. Trying to discover which one of our students had vandalized one of our schools. Oh, and I was successful
