The majority of the millions don't care two hoots abt those 10 reasons.
After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. The altruism part is that I think Facebook, as a company, is unethical. The selfish part is that I'd like my own social network to migrate away from Facebook so that I'm not missing anything. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account.

5. Even your private data is shared with applications. At this point, all your data is shared with applications that you install. Which means now you're not only trusting Facebook, but the application developers, too, many of whom are too small to worry much about keeping your data secure. And some of whom might be even more ethically challenged than Facebook. In practice, what this means is that all your data - all of it - must be effectively considered public, unless you simply never use any Facebook applications at all. Coupled with the OpenGraph API, you are no longer trusting Facebook, but the Facebook ecosystem.
This is why I don't use any of the applications. I just keep in contact with close friends and family and I didn't even give my real first name on there. Just my nickname...

Good one Kelvin! :thumbup

:homo:

I recently just deactivated my account. Facebook has managed to get itself into such a dominant position - it's simply too big for it's boots now. Their privacy sucks, they censor things they don't like and are absolutely petrified of legal threats.

I started to dislike it a couple of years ago after I did some research for an ex-employer and found out just how insecure and un-private it really is. So I immediately removed any personal info.

Facebook is becoming the ultimate example of corporate tyranny: they've got so much power they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want.

And, furthermore, it's just shit. FB consists purely of stupid status comments and the loser geeks that work there have managed to boil the whole gamut of human emotion into a one-sided boolean "Like" - which is just fucking lame.

I just put in on private and dont put stuff on it that I dont want others to get hold of.:dunno

There's no such thing as privacy on Facebook I'm afraid Peter, some of your info will turn up somewhere, it's that insecure. Besides, they reset some of the privacy settings weekly, you should be checking constantly.

Like I was saying, I just dont put stuff up that I dont want people to get hold of on there, no address or phone number on there, even if you are my friends and I've probably posted the worst photos of me on here, anyway, I'm not a proud, sensitive man.:D

yeah that's the best way to use it.

I'm waiting for a more open system to come out. Facebook represent the ultimate corporate tyranny if you ask me.

Even if you delete it, it's not gone. I got rid of mine a while back, tried to log in for shits and giggles, and everything was where I left it. Nothing went anywhere.

Same. I have friends who have their phone numbers, full addresses and other very personal data on facebook and their profiles aren't even private.

I went through all my account recently and made sure everything was private. People who do not have me added as a friend should not be able to see my status, my pictures, my information, my wall - anything. And I don't have my number on there, I don't have my address on there. And my email address should be hidden to people who do have me added as a friend.

 After my little incident last month I went and took down all my photo albums. It was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction but I was pissed. I may or may not put them back up in the future. We'll see if anyone missed them, I guess. :p I also made everything else on my profile hidden to everyone but my friends.

Facebook is fine, you just have to be very careful about what you put on your page.

Also, don't get addicted.

:homo: I don't put anything I wouldn't want getting back to my grandmother. I like that I can delete my friends comments, if they get out of line.
