Technically its not pirating if it was on free TV. I can see True Blood being pirated I guess though. :ninja

If it's coming from anywhere else than TV Station where advertising is not paying for it, the Industry will call it pirating..

I was wondering this earlier.

I mean, it's free to watch on TV. But downloading is illegal, even though that's free too. I sort of understand the loss of advertising power but I wonder how much of a difference that really makes.

Is it pirating if you have a TV and a TV licence, and you would have watched the show but you forgot to record it, so you've no choice but to download it?

Oh the perils of modern technology vs. morality!

I dont think that counts because the TV industry will argue the case saying they show repeats on a regular basis :p which sadly is true! I'll be the first to admit I stream alot of TV online because I prefer to be able to watch it in my own time, and not follow what the TV guide tell me to do!

It depends, if you watch a show on say...the iPlayer, that would be fine because the BBC own that and allow their shows to be shown on it. Much like the ITV Player, 4oD and american versions. But if you downloaded it from a third party site then yes that would be illegal and pirating regardless of whether you have a TV license or not. The defence argument "I had no choice but to download it" is about as effective as calling rape surprise sex in court. But don't worry, it's unlikely they'll catch you. I've been watching TV online for years and haven't been caught.
