Tim Burton to Direct 'Beetlejuice 2': Report
The sequel is likely to feature Michael Keaton

Looks like the rumors of a Tim Burton-helmed Beetlejuice sequel might become a reality. According to TheWrap, whose sources include "multiple individuals familiar with the project," the macabe master is officially in talks to direct Beetlejuice 2 for Warner Brothers. Michael Keaton, who starred in the original film as the titular wiseguy ghost, is also expected to return, reprising one of his iconic roles.

Burton has also been in talks to direct the fantasy feature Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, a 20th Century Fox-produced adaptation of the Ransom Riggs' novel. But TheWrap's sources indicate that Burton is still plotting: While Beetlejuice 2 isn't expected to be his next project, Burton has reportedly moved beyond the "flirtation" stage.

The long-awaited sequel will be produced by The Geffen Company, the crew behind the original 1988 film. The Beetlejuice 2 script was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also penned the Burton-helmed Dark Shadows and 2012's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which was produced by Burton).

Burton directed two movies last year: Dark Shadows and the Oscar-nominated Frankenweenie, a 3-D stop-motion remake of his 1984 short film of the same name.

It should be titled "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice", every different title will be obviously inferior. I really liked the first one and I think Keaton's acting was gold (and one of his best performances) but I fear the sequel will probably be a disappointment, the movie doesn't actually need a sequel so it looks a little forced.

i like beetlejuice, it had a great cast and an original story. No doubt this new one will be strong on special effects and poor on script, but will still watch it anyway. Special effects back in those days seemed great the way they done it so i look forward to see what this version will look like. Hope Winona Ryder is in it again

I would love for this to happen. Of all the reboots, this actually sounds interesting to me, and since Tim Burton would be doing it he would probably get better backing than a less popular director. I just hope they don't kill it with overzealous modern CGI.

Please stay away from the CGI if they do this, although something tells me they won't. The special effects were a great deal of the charm in the original film. I think they might have even used Matte Painting to create some of the backgrounds in the original film too, since it was still in use in the late 80's from what I recall. That would really make the film authentic too. Funny thing with Beetlejuice was that while I'm not much of a fan of Michael Keaton, especially in Batman, I did really like him in this film. He seemed too stodgy to play Batman, but he loosened up as Beetlejuice.
