The World 'Hero' Is Overused These Days

To me, the word 'hero' is overused nowadays in America.

My idea of a hero is someone who risks their lives to save another. A basketball player scoring 50 points in a big game isn't my idea of a 'hero.'

For people who are true heroes, a sports star being called a hero is sort of an insult. They are not in the same category as many firefighters and EMT's are.

I believe hero is a subjective term, and is open to interpretation. Just because someone is not a hero in your eyes, doesn't mean they cannot be a hero in another's eyes.
