The Superficial Sensation Sweeping The Nation

So. We see it every day and every where.. but mostly in subtle ways.
People playing the victim for attention. People lying for their own gain at the expense of others. Even manipulation as subtle as someone saying "awww mannnnn" when you don't do what they want. Some say these things are bad habits that have developed for some deep rooted defense or desire.

You grow up as a child and your parents tell you "Just be yourself sweety and everything will be ok"

And you think to yourself: "How could that be hard? I am myself"

You soon realize that its harder than you thought.

And through life you have experiences, those experiences turn into a thought, the thought turns into action, and before you know it you have bad habits.

You start to see the folly in your ways or you justify them as something that is logical.

If you say you don't have bad habits - chances are you are in denial.

So here are some questions to think about:

Do you see being superficial is normal or something that should be improved upon?

Do you think people that do this are bad people or just insecure?

What bad habits does your significant other have?

Why do you think that people justify their bad habits?

Answer any or go off on your own rant about the subject I don't care

Re: The Superficial Senation Sweeping The Nation

i'm not superficial........as long as i have what i need i'm happy.......whats the point in trying to out do others?

I understand that, but at the same time a little competition is good. I want to be better at everything than everyone.
I'm not, but I try. And because of it I do get a lot better at some things I would otherwise have just given up on.

Re: The Superficial Senation Sweeping The Nation

I believe that the most healthy perspective is to not compare yourself to others because someone is always better.

Never set yourself to unrealistic expectations and improve yourself for your own benefit

If you don't understand the benefit of improving yourself for yourself then I suggest you try. Expanding your mind and love are all that is real in my opinion.

Re: The Superficial Senation Sweeping The Nation

I'm competitive but I usually view it as a personal thing, there's always someone out there better than you at something so you'll always come a cropper at some point that way.

I know this is trivial but let me give you an example, I've got a friend who's good at football on the X Box and used to give me a hammering, I saw it as a personal victory when I managed to get him down to only beating me 2-0 or when I finally scored against him ect.

Just look at politics and the liberal media, and you'll find exactly what you just described. People complaining about this or that until the masses start listening and demand something be done about it, even if doing something about it causes more harm to other people than good to the ones it helps.

This is a good point you bring up

Older people who have lived their entire lives using these defense mechanisms to hide their baggage would crumble if forced to share their true beliefs.

But would it be so wrong to implement psychology into the school curriculum every year?

Children are our future.

Re: The Superficial Senation Sweeping The Nation

"Sweeping the Nation" to me seems like it must somehow NOT be present, and it is now becoming more influencial.

However, this is in no way shape or form new. People will always do what they will for attention and power (which are almost the same things), and people have done so thoughout history.

What Hans said.

Do you see being superficial is normal or something that should be improved upon? What is 'normal'? And what do you mean by "improved upon"?

Do you think people that do this are bad people or just insecure? Insecure.

What bad habits does your significant other have? What?

Why do you think that people justify their bad habits? That's an easy one, because these habits are called "bad" habits for a reason. People don't want to be known for having something "bad" habits, so they might reason having them. Most people I know though, admit to having bad habits and don't try to justify them.

I don't think you are comprehending what I am trying to say.

Before I explain it more I'd like you to think about it from more than one angle.

Hanses statement is irrelevant to the topic, and is unnecessary.

I think you have miss associated the above behavior with being superficial. The above seems more about manipulation and being spoiled?
