The Road

Can anyone tell me why they bothered to make this movie? Post apocalypse, father and son wander the landscape avoiding cannibals. I am oh so thankful I caught it on Showtime and did not pay extra to see it.
I won't ridicule you, but did anyone find this movie compelling? :)

cannibals?......sounds awesome

It's an illustration of just how ugly humans could become in a mass survival event and I easily could see it happen under the circumstances. I saw a couple of rules they broke. Number one, stay off the roads. After living the life you currently have would you be satisfied by just scraping by on the edge of life, or would killing yourself start to look like a viable option?

Would you starve or eat a human body?

Would you starve or would you kill another human to eat them?

Easy for me to say right at this moment, but I don't see myself killing another to eat them. I think I'd rather starve.

Great film. Great book.

Fucking hell though, it darked me out. Films don't normally get to me, but this gave me seriously fucked up nightmares.

Maybe the book was better. Not picking a fight, but what aspect of this film was great? The encounters they had with the two groups of humans they ran into ( on the road, in the house) was run away or be abused/eaten. You had cannibal nightmares? ;)

It's a beautifully shot film for starters, and Vigo was pretty solid. The kid, not so much, granted.
I think it's a great American take on the journey epic, reminiscient of the Aeneid or the Divine Comedy, because it's an exploration of morality and freedom.

And I just think it's a good film above all else.

I agree, Vigo was good. The story just seemed meandering without focus.

I'm a solid FAN of Cormac McCarthy who won a Pulitizer Prize for Fiction for this novel. He dedicated the book to his son, who was approximately the same age as the boy in the story, when the book was published.

The story, as I understood it, both film and novel, was McCarthy's way of showing the devotion and love between the father and his son. All the rest was dross.

From the book and the movie "He knew only that the child was his warrant. He said, If he is not the word of God God never spoke."

Powerful words, indeed.
