I don't know if any of you have been keeping up with the whole Pope's comments about Islam being linked to violence. I think it is interesting that Muslims were offended by the Pope's remarks, and the way in which they are reacting to it... with violence. Hmm.... Muslims certainly aren't doing anything to curb that opinion now are they?

I think what the Pope did was embarrassing. There is no excuse for such a comment, and he did not only make himself look bad, but also the millions of christians that may agree with him, or hopefully, not.
About the way some Muslims reacted, with violence, I find it sad. Even if you are right about something, defending it with violence makes you be wrong about it. I am sorry for the majority of the Muslims, who don't share that link to violance. The few Muslims who use violence, and are reflected by the media (on it's own interest, of course) are an embarrasment to their own people. Similar to the way the Pope embarrassed the Christians.

It seems to me that if you look at the history of religion - the Muslims are only the latest killers using religion as an excuse. Oh sure you can argue that the Catholic church stopped killing people 400 years ago but that was only after they killed many, many millions.

You are correct about one thing though & that is that some Muslims (against Mohammads teachings, incidently) won't rest until the whole world is Muslim. Interesting that it wasn't that long ago that the Catholic church shared the same view.

The biggest problem with Islam is that it has not had the reformation that most of the other mainstream religions have had. Therefore there is no single unit responsible for the teachings & that is why there are so many different interpretations.

The western religion reformations were bloody & lasted for a while. Perhaps this trouble now could be the catalyst for such a Muslim reformation. I suspect that as in Christianity & Judaism, there will still be the hardline fundamentalists.

ill probably get some flak for saying this, but to hell with it:

all religions have one thing in common: they're fake.

scratch that - two things in common: and they all have leaders who take advantage of the lesser unknowing peoples.

Unfortunately even though I too believe that all religion is false, it doe not take away the faith & ferocity of that faith by some of the believers.

I think there is enough evidence to show that Jesus was an actual person who lived in Jerusalem at about the time that the bible says. There is evidence for many of the stories in the bible, not all of them involving the people that the bible states & not always during the time period that the bible uses.

So while I believe in some of the biblical stories - it is not historically accurate, nor is it proof that there is a God.

Interestingly enough, some parts of the Koran & the Old Testament are almost identical - the Muslim Fundamentalists still believe in the punishments that were written about & once believed by all Jews. Things like losing a hand for stealing & being stoned for adultery - these are all early Christian beliefs & practised by the Taliban today.
