So I've been reading a lot on this topic and I believe there are some reasonable concerns about it. The new iPhone 5s and it's finger-print scanner feature. Stealing data already is one of the most popular crimes, especially on-line. It does not involve any gun action, yet again it might turn out to be extremely profitable. The new white-collar class crime is spreading fast trough various countries and I just can't close my eyes about it. It's true that Apple claims it's super-ultra-duper well protected, but is that the truth? There are web-sites here and there that offer rewards of the sort of ten thousand to anybody who manages to crack it and successfully find a way to steal a fingerprint from an iPhone. Are Apple's defences truly that good, or it's only a matter of time?

It's not really that safe. It's really comparable to using the face scanner lock - safe but not that safe. The Touch ID works with any body part as well, but I'd compare the Touch ID to more of an username rather than password. Of course Apple would endorse their own product, as they are the ones really profiting off iPhone 5S sales. To me, the Touch ID feature is more of a niche feature and one that is fun to play around and use casually, but if you really care about privacy, I wouldn't recommend it.

I don't think it's anything revolutionary. Like everything else, I think it just sells an illusion of security, rather than actual security. There's really not much you can do against a persevering crook, especially one that probably has more time than you, and especially just with a fingerprint.

I personally have never owned an iPhone so I really do not know weather this is a concern or not but personally I don't see any reason why I would need to protect my phone with my fingerprint.

I mean in this day and age people can hack almost anything and even if they can't hack it, that still does not stop it from getting stolen.

I don't want to sound like a crazy conspiracy-theory woman, but I feel like somehow the United States Government will get a hold of the fingerprint biometric data used by the phone and use it for their own databases. Now, this could help with law enforcement, but does this cut into our privacy and freedoms?

I currently own the iPhone 5, and I don't have plans on upgrading to the iPhone 5S or 5C any time soon, if at all. Honestly, I am a little sick of Apple, so I'm looking at Androids for my next phone in a few years.

I think it's a useless feature, how different is it from the security code you can put on your lockscreen?
If it does get stolen, the code will already protect it. Hacking is different if they can pass your code, they will pass your fingerprint too.
