last night we took the girls trick or treating. there was actually a group (somehow we attached to it lol) that included about 8 kids, the youngest being around 2 and the oldest about 10 with downs syndrome. the kids were laughing and having a good time, and i ended up talking to the older gentleman (he is from where i grew up!) the kids go to this one house, that did not have a porch light on. now mind you i had told the girls that we only go to houses that have porch lights on, and gave them some other rules. the other group of kids went for this house, so my girls went with them. what happened next just totally floored me!!!!

a man from inside yelled at the kids "we dont do halloween, yall go to hell!" now mind you, i was standing in the street and heard what he said. este was next to me and i looked at him and said "did he seriously just tell a group of young kids to go to hell????"

the man appeared before an open window so my smart ass yelled back, "did you seriously just say that? to a group of young kids???"

i can appreicate the fact that some people dont celebrate halloween. i can appreciate the fact that some religions dont celebrate halloweeen. but seriously....to yell at a group of children?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!

i was just FLOORED at his reaction. poor addie came up to me saying "mommy, that guy yelled a bad word at us." i just shook my head and said i know baby, i know. come on, let's go to the next house.

Some people are beyond belief. That is when you tell your little girl, "That his Mommy should wash his mouth out with soap."

I am not too sure my reaction might have been like Este.

About half our neighborhood had lights on for kids to come around and not one kid was in our whole neighborhood trick or treating.

Whatever happened to the good ol days? I mean, you DID offer the man a choice, right? (Trick or treat?)

Egg away. He is totally fair game, and the lesson for the kids would have been "Always follow through on what you tell people." You said treats or you would trick him, so...

LOL

I have trouble grasping why the guy felt the need to yell at kids.

that is being pretty stupid on his part. you just ignore the kids. yelling at them is just begging to have your house trashed. Heck I pass out candy just to make sure nobody is pissed.

I don't know why the guy just didn't ignore the damn bell :dunno

When I grew up my Dad would disconnect the door bell when we were out of Candy.. Not sure why people can't do simple things..

Last night as we walked around we avoided as many "lights out" places as possible but a few had pumpkins so we would do those.. Some cultures are not aware of the lights out thing and think the darkness is part of the game..

We had one lady handing out "save your kids with Jesus" CD Roms.. :eek But I guess it was better than screaming at them.. PS That's ones for the EX to deal with.. Bwahahahaha

He shall be known, as of last night, as the crazy old mean man who yelled at the kids on Halloween.. I don't envy him at all..

Heck even while we were gone I left a bag of candy with a sign that said take two candies each.. Again this year kids did NOT abuse the honor system being we were good enough to leave them candy.. ;)

I agree he should never have yelled at the kids, but what you're saying makes me feel sad. I know it was the wrong thing to do - but I hope he has someone that cares about him. God I'm in a sad mood...that thought actually brought tears to my eyes.

He chooses to be like that. He could take his ars some where are people his age and hangout, or just be friendly with the neighbors.
There are many things he could do besides being a hermit and grumpy.
Have you guys seen "The Grinch" with Jim Carey? Little "who" child was nice to him and he started being happy again.
You never know. I have been around some people that live their life full of hate. It will make you age quickly.

It IS a sad thought, you're right. When I was in high school I was a Chorus member and, during the holidays, we would go visit the residents at the local nursing homes and sing to them. Some of those people NEVER get any visitors and they were so happy to see us, perfect strangers, and just have us spend some time w/ them. Breaks your heart.
