"The Moon" malware spreading amongst some Linksys routers

Not sure how many of you use a Linksys router, they are pretty popular but there is a malware package that is spreading across certian models that have "Remote Management Access" enabled due to a security flaw in their firmware. If you are not infected it is recommended that you disable this option or restrict it to trusted IPs. Doesn't affect anyone who reflashed theirs with DD-WRT (dd-wrt.com) third party open source firmware.

Didn't hear about this, kind of worries me that this could strike my manufacturer (Netgear).

Well this particular version is specifically targeting Linksys routers, but firmware exploits are not uncommon across other models. Best thing to do is to see if there is an update availible from your manufacturer and you can read over the release notes to see what has been changed. Hackers are always going to target the more popular platforms so they can make the greatest impact. Not sure what model you have but you can always search it on sites like Secunia to see what threats exist (http://secunia.com/advisories/vendor/39/)
