Currently Lionel Messi (Barcelona striker and current World Player of the year) has 63 goals in 2012. The record for most goals in a calendar year is the 85 scored by German legend Gerd Muller in 1972. So to break the record Messi needs to score 23 goals in a minimum of 19 games (it could rise to 21 should Barcelona get through the Copa Del Rey in late November) though that's providing Messi plays in every game (he'll probably appear in about 18)
