The Hummers Are Back

They have been back for about a month or so and for numerous reasons I haven't been able to shoot it. It's raining again today but I said enough is enough and did what I could. He was about 40' away sitting on a Blackberry thorn branch looking very cold. This is a big crop because the little guy is only about the size of your thumb.

That specific species, are they just a native to Canada? :unsure: Haven't seen those around here.

They are cute in real life but in order to enjoy them you need to have a feeder. If you don't have a feeder and they are around all you see is a big bug zipping past you. The feeder helps in attracting and keeping them around. They are fun to watch especially when the young are flying about. They fight like the dickens and it's amazing now much noise they can make.

That specific species, are they just a native to Canada? :unsure: Haven't seen those around here.

There are quite a few different color variations for the Rufous. I've never seen one like the shot I posted here so I had to do a bit of research to pin it down. As far as being native to Canada no they aren't. Our climate is much too cold for them in the winter so they hang out in California, maybe even further south, and work their way up here in the spring.

Lots of patience, a tripod, a good lens, and about 4 - 6 flashes if you have 'em.
