i just made a status on my Facebook that sparked a little discussion i thought we could have here. When does your family get so big that saying getting together as an entire family is just too much of a pain in the ass to deal with? this is what my discussion looked like....
So when does your family become so big? that holidays should become immediate family. This goes with Thanksgiving and Easter as well, not just Christmas.
Me: It's approaching the time of year where being single really starts to suck.
High School Friend: at least you don't have inlaws to worry about. there's gotta be something said for not having to fight over which parents get which holidays.
Me: True. It used to be that when my grandfather lived up here my mom would do our side of the family Christmas Eve and the boyfriend's Christmas Day. Within the recent years theres been a real initiative to try and do a small thing with just me and the parents. The families are too big and I'm not going to be single forever so it's like when's too much too much?
I know that with my dads family, they see him as the bread winner in the family aside from his mother because he works for UPS. in the past it was expected that everyone got gifts. Well Jeff decided that was enough. I mean he had both his sisters children then for a while he had his brothers wifes children.... Just because he makes a few G's a week doesn't make him santa Claus.High School Friend: at least you don't have inlaws to worry about. there's gotta be something said for not having to fight over which parents get which holidays.
