I saw the first one once and that was enough. Long and boring unlike the LOTR series. The second one however was back to grassroots. A traveling adventure with amazing battle scenes, and a familiar face! But what did you make of Legolas? He seemed a bit too much like a terminator rather than an elf, very different from the LOTR Legolas.

As I've read the book " The Hobbit " so many times that I've lost count - I was so pleased when they announced that they were going to make a film version of it and thinking that it would be of the same caliber as " The Lord of the Rings Trilogy " looked forward to its release with excited anticipation - only to be so sorely disappointed that I never managed to get to the end of the film and because of that - have never felt the urge to watch the sequel - but as you've mentioned - that there are some amazing battle scenes and you've got my curiosity going as to what a terminator Legolas looks like - think I shall have to think about watching it after all :D

Welcome to offtopicz GM :D. The book was great and so much easier to read than LOTR. It's a shame that you missed the end of the first hobbit film as that was the best part! There was a battle scene and Gandalf was right in the thick of it so it was good to see the old man in combat. I recommend watching the second as the elves do make it a lot more entertaining. Can't wait for the third part now to see the finale.

Hi and thank you kaiuk - I would definitely agree with you there - The Hobbit is for sure a much easier read that the LOTR Trilogy and although I've read the latter many times - nowadays I find it far easier to watch the films rather than read the books :D

I'm thinking from what you've said about the ending of the first Hobbit film and that as I too - would very much enjoy seeing Gandalf in the thick of a battle scene - I might just have to try and watch the first Hobbit film all the way through - which of course I may now find more enjoyable and easier to do - as quite some time has past since I last watched LOTR and think because of that - I perhaps won't be comparing the quality of the two so much - which will hopefully lead on to seeing the second Hobbit film - as I feel more than sure that I too would find the elves extremely entertaining :)

Although I've not yet seen the first two films yet - I noticed that you mentioned you were looking forward to the arrival of the third and final film - so wondered if you knew when it was due to be released ?

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (part 3) will be released in December this year. If you watch the second one then you will know that you must watch the third. I was worried when they split this small book into 3 parts but it seems to have worked out so far.

I am now thinking that LOTR should have been divided into 5 parts rather than squashed into 3. Or he could have done a proper job and made it into 9 films, + 3 from the hobbit!

I think 3 films is a stretch for the Hobbit. I wish LOTR had been 4 films instead of 3. Better to follow the books that way.
