Mention the word race anywhere and everyone gets suspicious. Waiting for bomb to be dropped. The only time people ever make an attempt to talk about racism is when someone forcibly exposes himself as a racist [as part of a group] as it frequently happens in Europe when white fans want to disconcert black players. Can we run away from the fact that racism is very much alive? And it's not just white-on-black racism that exists? Let's talk about this. What are your thoughts on racism?

I don't think it's going anywhere. Luckily, it's not something I see unless I have the tv on or I'm commenting on forums (there are some HORRIBLE people out there; wow!). I live in a very progressive country in so many ways,.. in so many ways that actually matter to me. I couldn't imagine being hated for something I can't and don't want to control about myself. I wish all racists and homophobes had a taste of it for a day..

IMO all this racism and all -ism stuff gains strength because those who are targeted react to it. The only way to deal with racism or any -ism is to ignore the racists. With time once they learn their taunts serve no purpose it will start dying out.

Racism can never be dealt with. It is impossible. New people are born every day who will develop these feelings regardless of what people put in place to change that. If you believe there were racial overtones to the Trayvon Martin case and crime, what came out of all of that? Anything? People protested and felt good about themselves but, to myself, accomplished nothing. No laws changed in Florida. If it occurred again today it would play out the same way. That is not change.
