I don't think the crowd was being controlled. I think they were just doing what is usually done at a concert when there's a drum solo happening. Crowd participation . Nothing more.. nothing less.

:homo: He's a solid drummer . Other than that he hasn't got any real technique. His fame is what keeps him going on the drums.

Personally I think a great musician dosen't have to control the audience, if the're that great, the audience will get into it of their own accord.

got nothing on Neil Peart

Greatest drum solo of all time IMO
He's not 1/2 as fast as Lang with either his hands or feet. He lacks any finesse as far as accents are concerned. Like you that's just my opinion. Different styles... different tastes. No biggie.

it all depends on the music being performed....jazz drummers are awesome in their own way, rock drummers like Kieth Moon and Zep's Bonham were spot on as well, Phil Collins best stuff was when he was just the drummer for Genesis. Bill Bruford of YES/King Crimson/ etc had some good beats as well....so, you can't say one is king of the heap...my .02

Rod De'Ath was a tops drummer.

But I'd have to pluck for Simon Kirke as my favourite drummer.
